Crafting

Collect various materials to make various weapons, ammunition or upgrades to weapons Show a slowish animation of crafting the object (Like in The Last of Us) Add a mini game while crafting to make the item stronger, more durable, more explosive, etc. Add stuff that goes above and beyond just the regular shop items and look at heavily limiting the available crafting items to just cool stuff Provide only limited inventory space so the player has to craft and use items so that they can pick up more items Use weapon degradation to incentivise crafting more durable items, fixing items

If crafting is too much like an "alternate skinned version of a shop" then look at removing crafting and just having the shop instead An alternate shop keeper with cool stuff in a secret or hard to get to location might be a better idea instead

Breaking Into Cars and Hotwiring

Provide a mini game where the player has to pick the car lock or cut and reattach wires to hotwire vehicles
