Cannot draw a map offline

Hello,

I am facing an issue since I have updated plotly to 1.13.0 using the python api.

When I try to render a map plot, there is a call to https://cdn.plot.y/world_110m.json even though I am using the offline feature.

How can I point the library towards local files?

We're currently on version 1.12.10 of the python API.

Hi @thomascoquet , you can just download the file: https://cdn.plot.ly/world_110m.json
Then change the generated HTML file of your map like this:

sed -i 's@https://cdn.plot.ly/@http://your.domain.com/@g' map.html

This way, the file world_110m.json would be retrieved from your domain instead of requesting it to the plot.ly CDN. This would solve your problem if your environment is purely offline.

Problem

The generated maps from the plot.ly library (python and JS) request the file that, I think, is used to draw the shape of the map. This request is done against the CDN. I think that piece of data could be introduced inside the generated HTML file in order to generate a pure offline solution. Many intranet environments do not allow external internet requests.

hi this is for anyone frantically looking for a way to get this to work offline and/or are having trouble getting local files imported because you are using a web server.... I did the worst work around ever but it seems to be working so I thought I would share!

In plotly.js search for the function "proto.fetchTopojson". Within this function there is a Promise, in here comment out the d3.json thing where it tries to read it in from somewhere including the errors it tries to throw. Then within the promise at the "resolve" copy and paste the data from the world_110m.json file and call it a day.

Again, this is the worst work around ever, but it works.

Had the same issue. Installing plotly-geo solved the problem.
