@praksharma praksharma released this 28 Oct 15:09

First release under the Brecon name, formerly PyniteGUI.

The app, package, launch command, Help/About, reports, MCP identity, documentation and citation now use Brecon. The pynitegui command/import namespace, existing project/recipe formats, preferences, recovery storage and old MCP reference URI remain compatible. Repository URLs and previous release artifacts are preserved.

Install in a fresh environment:

uv tool install --python 3.12 "brecon==1.0.0rc4"
brecon

Or use python -m pip install "brecon==1.0.0rc4" in a Python 3.12+ virtual environment. For MCP support, install "brecon[mcp]==1.0.0rc4". If reusing an environment or uv-tool setup, uninstall the old PyniteGUI package/tool first because both provide the compatibility command/import namespace. Keep your project files.

Validation:

  • 882 tests passed with no skips in each of two environments: locked checkout and independently installed MCP wheel.
  • Fresh base/MCP installations of the final wheel passed all 26 examples through save/open/analyze/export and native-window startup. Authenticated MCP discovery/edit/undo/shutdown and both launch commands passed.
  • Isolated uv-tool installation, both installed-asset viewport suites, strict documentation/link checks and documentation browser QA passed.
  • Installed RC4 visible Cocoa checks passed with WebGL 2.0 / ANGLE Metal on Apple M4 Max. The final runtime is byte-identical to that tested build. Earlier RC3 human file-picker/F5/printing confirmation remains historical evidence; Linux and Windows RC4 workflows are unverified.
  • The publishing workflow accepts Brecon metadata only and verifies the exact tagged assets and hashes before uploading without rebuilding.

This remains a prerelease. Intended scope is elastic 2D/3D frames and bilateral axial-only trusses, plus restricted frame-only P-Delta. Surface/plate workflows are experimental. Plastic, modal, unilateral and reinforced-concrete nonlinear workflows remain deferred. Independent feedback and outstanding platform checks are required before stable 1.0.

The wheel and source archive are built from commit 9d21e167497cde1727d1fddc8ea86c19e9d33d7b. Verify them with the attached SHA256SUMS.

See validation and limits, changelog, the manual and citation guidance.

This is an unpublished consolidation checkpoint at commit 0888c66a74cbc54524da6cf15775e7fc8ca621c2. RC2 remains the published PyPI release; RC3 publication is a separate owner decision.

Changes since RC2:

  • Named model groups and global-Y levels, scoped envelope filters and governing-station queries.
  • Previewed move, repeat/array, rotate, mirror, planar beam/frame generators and controlled node merging, with undo.
  • Independent material shear modulus and both official Space Frame – Nodal Loads examples; nine of twenty official examples are adapted.
  • A native analysis-cleanup freeze fixed in both frame and plate workspaces, with delayed-cleanup regression coverage.
  • Reproducible visible installed-wheel checks and a working Actions deployment of the documentation.

Validation:

  • 879 tests passed without skips in each of two environments: locked checkout and fresh non-editable MCP wheel.
  • Separate base/MCP installations of the final wheel passed all 26 examples, save/open/analyze/export and native-window startup; authenticated MCP discovery/edit/undo/shutdown passed.
  • An isolated uv tool install reports PyniteGUI 1.0.0rc3.
  • Both installed-asset viewport suites and strict documentation/link checks passed.
  • Visible Cocoa checks passed generators, arrays, undo/redo, save/reopen with supplied paths, analysis, station queries, CSV/PDF and report preview, both official space frames and MCP lock/unlock. Native WebGL 2.0 reports ANGLE Metal on Apple M4 Max. Final runtime files are byte-identical to the fully tested wheel.

The owner confirmed that real macOS Save As/Open file pickers, F5 analysis and the interactive Print Results dialog all worked on 2026-10-28. That confirmation arrived after tagging and is recorded in the current validation record; the sealed tag and assets are unchanged. Linux and Windows visible RC3 workflows are unverified. Those platform checks and independent feedback remain stable-1.0 gates.

New saves use project formats 25/26; older files migrate, while older application versions reject these new formats. Plate/surface recipes remain derived-G only. Elastic frame/truss and restricted frame-only P-Delta are the intended scope; surfaces/plates remain experimental. Plastic, modal, unilateral and reinforced-concrete workflows remain deferred.

See RELEASE.md, CHANGELOG.md and the guide. Verify the attached wheel and source archive with SHA256SUMS. No RC3 PyPI upload is part of this draft preparation.

@praksharma praksharma released this 27 Oct 17:08

PyniteGUI 1.0.0rc2 prepares the desktop editor for stable 1.0, with updated modeling, result inspection, documentation and examples since rc1.

Highlights

  • Model/Results workspaces and main-canvas force/deformation controls, signed member colour maps and exact station/side probes.
  • Combination comparisons, envelopes, explicit storey drift and static deformation playback.
  • Searchable example browser, 24 ready-to-analyze frame/truss examples, adapted official PyNite examples and dimensioned section sketches.
  • Experimental surface meshing, rectangular plate analysis and opt-in rectangular Quad slab/frame coupling.
  • Refreshed README, illustrated documentation and project citation files.

Installation

Download the wheel and install from its directory:

uv tool install --python 3.12 ./pynitegui-1.0.0rc2-py3-none-any.whl
pynitegui

For MCP support, install "./pynitegui-1.0.0rc2-py3-none-any.whl[mcp]" instead. If the launcher is not found, run uv tool update-shell and reopen the terminal. This is a Python package, not a standalone installer. No PyPI publication is included in this release preparation.

Validation and Scope

  • 831 tests passed in the locked development environment and 831 against a fresh installed wheel, without skips, including real MCP checks.
  • Base/MCP installations and all 24 frame/truss examples passed save/open/analyze/export checks. Isolated uv-tool installation also passed.
  • Both offline viewport suites passed against installed assets; documentation and distribution audits passed.
  • The final README rebuild preserves all tested runtime files; base/MCP smoke checks passed again.

Linear elastic frames/trusses and restricted frame-only elastic P-Delta are the intended stable scope. Surface/plate/slab tools remain experimental. Plastic, modal, unilateral and reinforced-concrete nonlinear workflows are deferred. Visible installed-app platform checks and prerelease feedback remain open before stable 1.0; Windows is unverified. Chromium software-rendered QA does not certify native Qt/WebEngine hardware rendering.

See RELEASE.md for environment versions and remaining gates, and the guide for workflows and engineering limits. Verify the attached wheel and source archive with SHA256SUMS.

Changelog

1.0.0rc1 - Release Candidate

First release candidate for the frame-focused desktop application.

  • Qt desktop editing for 2D/3D elastic frames and bilateral axial-only trusses.
  • Materials/sections and starter libraries, support restraints/springs, 2D end
releases, angled/point/distributed loads, self-weight, cases and combinations.
  • Undo/redo, model tables, split/connect workflows, autosave/recovery and examples.
  • Four unit presets, light/dark themes, cancellable analysis and snapshot-aware results.
  • Member and whole-frame diagrams, envelopes, inspection, CSV and printable reports.
  • Offline Three.js 3D viewport, orientation gizmo, explicit work-plane drawing
and node dragging, batched base geometry and bounded analytical sampling.
  • Optional localhost MCP server: schema discovery, permission-controlled atomic
edits, session/revision guards, analysis status/cancellation and exclusive MCP mode.
  • Release metadata, version reporting, distribution checks and installed-package smoke tests.
  • MCP input filtering is installed only during exclusive control mode, avoiding
inactive per-window global event-filter overhead during normal editing/testing.

Scope and Limitations

Linear elastic frame/truss statics only. General 3D frame end releases, inclined
supports, unilateral elements/springs, P-Delta, modal/pushover analysis and plate,
mesh, wall/foundation workflows are not exposed. MCP viewport capture is pending.
Libraries are starter/reference data, not comprehensive design-code catalogs.
No structural design-code checks or certification are implied; independently
verify models, units, stability and engineering results before relying on them.

Python 3.12+ and compatible Qt/scientific dependencies are required. Wheels are
Python packages, not standalone installers. NVIDIA/Wayland graphics may require
the documented hardware profile or software rendering. The current release
validation record and platform gaps are maintained in RELEASE.md.
