Inkleaf 3.1.2

The big one in this release: Inkleaf now has its own AI. It's free, needs no
key or account, and runs on your computer (or your phone), so the document
never leaves it. Plus print preview, copying a PDF's own text, and a lot of
the computer app's tools on Android.

New

Built-in AI. Pick "Built-in AI" in Tools › AI settings and download a
model once: Quick (1.3 GB) or Better (2.7 GB). After that it works offline.
On a computer it uses your graphics card if it can. It's Qwen 3.5, run with
llama.cpp. Cloud services (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity) and AI
apps like Ollama still work as before.

Ask this PDF (Ctrl+Shift+A). Ask a question about the document and get an
answer with the page numbers it came from. Tap a page number to jump there.
With a cloud AI, only the parts of the document that match your question are
sent.

Copy the PDF's own text. With the Select tool, drag across any words in
the PDF, or double-click one, and copy them. On a phone, hold a finger on a
word, drag to select more, then tap Copy.

Print preview. See every page before it goes to the printer, and choose
all pages, the current one, or a range like 1-3, 5.

On Android

The phone app now has:

  • the built-in AI, running on the phone itself (64-bit phones; 8 GB of
    memory recommended for Better)
  • Ask this PDF
  • Share securely and Receive a file, with your own receive code
  • Enhance pages, as a sheet so the page stays in view
  • text selection and copying
  • backups of documents from before they're saved over (Settings › Backups)
  • an update check, so the APK tells you when there's a new version

Fixed

  • Translate PDF works on far more files. PDFs made in Word often store
justified text one word at a time, so translations came back untranslated
or jumbled. Inkleaf now puts the words back into whole lines first, keeps
each line's place even when the AI fumbles one, and tells you if any lines
couldn't be translated instead of failing quietly.
  • "Make Inkleaf the default PDF app" no longer keeps asking after you've
set it. Windows 11 recently moved where it records that choice.
  • File Explorer's preview pane shows PDFs again once Inkleaf is your
default PDF app. Open Inkleaf once after updating, then click a PDF.
  • If you set up an Anthropic key in Inkleaf 2.3, it's kept as your AI after
updating instead of switching to the built-in AI.

Good to know

  • The built-in AI is a small model. It summarizes and answers questions
well; for long or tricky translations, Better or a cloud AI gives nicer
    wording.
  • The first answer after opening Inkleaf takes a few extra seconds while the
    model loads.
  • New text in this release is translated into all 29 languages Inkleaf's
menus come in. If something reads oddly in yours, please open an issue.

@priyanshdas priyanshdas released this 27 Oct 07:27

Inkleaf now comes to your phone, and scanned PDFs get a lot easier to read.

New

  • Android app. A proper phone app, not a squeezed desktop: a Files home, a reader that keeps the page front and centre, and an edit sheet when you need it. Android 7 and newer.
  • Phone ↔ computer link. Send PDFs between your phone and computer over your own Wi-Fi. Encrypted, nothing goes through the internet.
  • Enhance Pages (View › Enhance Pages…, Ctrl+Shift+E). Fix faded or grey scans with contrast, sharpness and presets like Scan, Faded, Darker text and Night. It only changes how pages look until you choose Save enhanced copy, which can also make the text searchable.
  • Microsoft Store. Inkleaf is now on the Microsoft Store too.
  • Pinch to zoom and two-finger pan on touchscreens.
  • Translations updated in all 29 languages.

Download

If you already have Inkleaf installed on Windows, it updates itself.
