Can't highlight text on ptpython and ptipython

Installed ptipython but see an error saying prompt_toolkit version is too high.

Manually installed a compatible version (2.0.9), but I can't highlight and copy text on this version of prompt_toolkit.

I will release a new version of ptpython very soon.
What do you mean with highlighting? Can you try holding down the shift key?

Basically can't highlight anything, even with shift.

So when you hit enter to run commands, the REPL will return the result of that command. I can't use my mouse to highlight either the past commands, or the results.

Now that you've prompted me to check, I can't even highlight the command I'm currently writing either (in both Emacs and Vim). I thought I'd be able to hit "v" to use visual mode using the vim input, but it instead evaluates the whole line, and opens an empty temporary file in my default editor (VSCode).

I'm on a Mac, if that helps.

Upon launching ptpython 3.0.7 with IPython 7.18.1, I was able to replicate this inability to select any text in that iTerm window, but this happened only after I copied the contents of the example configuration file to ~/.ptpython/config. I tracked down the cause to the following line, which when commented-out resolves the problem:

repl.enable_mouse_support = True

I'm not sure what enabling that setting is supposed to do, but if this side effect is intended, it doesn't seem like a worthwhile trade-off.

Thanks for letting us know about the fix. This strangely resolved itself but I can't remember if I actually used the configuration file when I was seeing the problem. I can confirm I don't have a config file and highlighting works again.

I made an issue at #549 that may be of interest. I will make a PR over the weekend.
