To be more inclusive, I think the examples should encourage the recent trends to use main rather than master.

I believe recent git versions work with this, and there are blogposts on how to configure this for older versions.

Thanks for making this PR, @sergei-maertens and nudging us on this! We agree with you fully (see About repo issue 668). For consistency and predictability, we want to do all of our repos at the same time (scheduled for 15 Feb 2021).
We'll update/close this PR and About repo issue 668 when it's done.

We've done this now for all repos except the Jekyll theme, which we'll do as soon as the remote Jekyll theme plug-in is updated (see issue 66).
