Taneleer 1.1.0
Changed
- The bulk dialogs (Resolve a run, Confirm known matches, Top up series
details) were brought into line. Disabled buttons now look unavailable, and
Confirm says why it is disabled. Each dialog takes focus when it opens, keeps
Tab inside, and claims Escape; in the series details form Escape steps back to
the list rather than discarding it. The result line, undo wording and the
ComicVine pause message are the same in all three. Needs a look groups have
tick all and untick all; the checkboxes match the review panel's; column
heads, volume names and issue titles follow the style guide; small text is
easier to read; volume links rest quietly and turn blue on hover; "Confirm
known matches" shows only on the Pending tab; the Library header wraps on a
narrow window; the empty-state copy is plainer. - Confirming or topping up a file streams its pages from the archive instead of
reading every page into memory, so a large file no longer risks running out of
file handles. The ComicVine volume's issue list and cover hashes are
remembered for ten minutes, so a dialog that refreshes after each confirm or
undo no longer fetches them again, and a volume already looked up for the
review is not asked for a second time when the file is confirmed.
Changed
- Resolving a run or a series carries a quiet caution: use it when you are sure
of the volume. The pairing is by number alone, which can be wrong,
particularly for collected editions (a volume number need not match an issue
number) and for titles ComicVine splits across volumes. It appears as a short
line on the offer, in the volume chooser and under the dialog's key, without
getting in the way; nothing is confirmed until the files are ticked and
confirmed.
Fixed
- A ComicVine volume address could not be used to find a file. The review's
"paste a link to force a match" field accepted only an issue address, so
pasting a volume page (".../4050-124800/") was refused as "could not read an
issue ID". It now takes either: an issue address picks that issue, and a
volume address lists the volume's issues as the candidates for the file,
which is what is needed when search cannot surface the volume. For a title
with a common name ("Die", 1,054 volumes), search returned a wrong
"Die!Die!Die!" #2 instead of Die: Split The Party; the volume address ranks
the right issue above it.
Fixed
- Resolving a series could report "every file dealt with" while every file was
still pending. Choosing The Wicked + The Divine paired nothing: the file
names spell "+" as "plus" and the volume's name has the symbol, which scored
below the match threshold, so no file read as that series, and the dialog
said the run was finished. Three fixes: "&" and "+" now compare equal to
"and" and "plus" everywhere series names are compared; files that read as
the series the user opened the dialog for join the run even when the
volume's name differs; and a dialog with nothing to pair now says so and
offers another volume instead of claiming completion. - Collected editions named for their volume ("wickedplusthedivine_vol3") pair
with issue 3 of the volume, since ComicVine files such a title's trades as
issues 1 to N. The row marks the number as coming from the volume.
Added
- A link to the volume on ComicVine wherever a volume is offered or chosen: on
the Resolve a run dialog's heading, beside each volume in the chooser and each
alternative volume, and on each candidate card. It opens in the browser, so a
volume's issues, publisher and covers can be checked before resolving a run
against it.
Changed
- The bulk dialogs now show that work is happening. While one waits on
ComicVine or the disk it shows a pulse, the current step ("Fetching the
volume's issues", "Comparing covers 12 of 40", "Checking the IDs with
ComicVine"), a bar that fills when the step has a count and sweeps when it
does not, and after six seconds how long it has been and that nothing is
needed from the user. Confirming shows a count and the latest file. Undo shows
"Undoing…" and cannot be clicked twice. A failure says what happened in plain
words, with a "Try again" button; ComicVine's rate limit is described as a
pause that lifts, not an error. Confirm known matches now refreshes after each
batch like the other dialogs, and an emptied list says there is nothing left
to do.
Added
- Top up series details. ComicVine keeps a volume's publisher and start year on
the volume, not on its issues, so files confirmed through the app were left
with no Publisher and no Volume, and filed under a bare "Vol" folder. A
"Top up series details (N)" button in the Collection tab looks the affected
files' volumes up in bulk and fills only the empty fields, then files each
file under its volume year. A volume from a translating publisher (Panini
Verlag, Norma Editorial, Cross Cult and the like) is flagged instead of
filled, since it usually means the wrong edition was confirmed. Journaled and
undoable; the dialog refreshes after each batch. npm run batchgainstop-upandsend-back.send-back <id...>returns
confirmed files to pending without their old ComicInfo, for files confirmed to
the wrong match; like the others it prints the plan unless given--apply.npm run batchruns the bulk confirms from the terminal, for one-off jobs
and for confirming without opening the app. It defaults to printing the plan,
backs up the index and journals before it changes anything, can undo a batch,
and refuses while the app has the index open. See the README.- Confirm known matches. Pending files that already carry a ComicVine ID (a
"[CVDB123]" note or a ComicVine URL in their metadata) are checked against
ComicVine in bulk, 100 IDs to a request. Files ComicVine still agrees with
on series, number and year start ticked; anything it disputes, a shared ID,
or a path that would clash starts unticked. Confirming moves each file as it
is, since its metadata is already ComicVine's, and makes no further requests.
A "Confirm known matches (N)" button appears in the Pending header. - Bulk confirms are journaled on disk, and "Undo this batch" puts every file
back in pending as it was. A file that has changed since is left alone and
reported. Applies to both Resolve a run and Confirm known matches. - Resolve a run. When a candidate's volume matches several pending files (a
series scanned as "witchblade_issue2", "witchblade_issue3" and so on), the
review shows "Resolve the whole run". The dialog pairs each file with the
volume's issue of the same number, shows how the covers compare, and
confirms the ticked files together. Pairings that need a look (no such
issue, two files claiming one number, a cover that differs) start unticked.
This works for files with no embedded metadata, which the earlier sibling
prompt could not reach. The offer is a banner with a button under the open
candidate, and candidates in a run carry a "run of N files" flag. The dialog
groups files as Ready, Needs a look (ticked by you) and No match here (no
issue with that number). For No match here files, "Confirm with series
details" fills a form from the volume (series, start year, publisher, and a
Notes line saying there is no issue record) and confirms the files with that
and their own number, so a run is not left half-filed when ComicVine lacks a
few issues. Journaled and undoable like the other bulk confirms. The dialog stays open
after each confirm and refreshes its list, so the files just confirmed drop
out and the rest remain to deal with. A file that found no candidate still
offers "Resolve the series" when other pending files read as the same series:
it lists ComicVine volumes with a similar name, or takes a pasted volume link,
so a run is never confirmed piecemeal for want of one candidate. When the
chosen volume lacks some of the files' numbers (ComicVine often splits a
title: a one-issue collected edition and the original run), the dialog lists
the other volumes of the same title that have them, with a button to resolve
against that volume instead.
Changed
- Review candidates now say which run of a title they belong to: publisher,
the year the volume began and how many issues it has, plus an "undated" flag
and a plain "cover matches / similar / differs / not checked" label. When no
cover could be compared at all, the list says the order is by title and
number only. ComicVine files relaunches and foreign-language editions as
separate volumes with the same name, and these details are what tell them
apart. One extra ComicVine request per search, shared across the candidates. - An undated issue now ranks slightly below a dated issue with the same number
from an equally good series match. A real cover match still outweighs it.
Fixed
- A confirm could silently replace a different issue. Two issues can resolve to
the same output path (two runs of one title with no volume number, or a
duplicate scan), and the write replaced the first. Confirming now refuses,
says the path is already taken, and leaves the file pending. A file may still
replace its own earlier output when it is re-enriched. - Issues with no volume number now file under their ComicVine volume's start
year (Witchblade/Vol.1995, Witchblade/Vol.2024) instead of a bare "Vol"
folder, so relaunches of a title no longer share paths. A volume the file
already carries is never replaced.

Added
- Updates are now visible. When a newer version has downloaded, the footer
reads "Version X is ready. Restart to apply." with Restart now and Later
buttons, and the Settings gear carries an amber dot. The app also looks for
updates every four hours while it is open, not just at startup. If a scan is
running, Restart now asks for a second click first. An update still installs
on quit if the prompt is ignored. - The manual entry form links to a Grand Comics Database search for the series
being entered. Collected editions that ComicVine lacks are often recorded
there; the link opens in the browser and nothing is fetched or stored.
Fixed
- Candidates were ordered by an accident of cover checking. Only the top few
candidates have their covers compared with the file's; the rest kept their
full text score, so any checked candidate whose cover did not match (a
collected edition against a single issue) fell below unchecked later issues.
Unchecked candidates are now scored on the same scale, so the order the
ranking intends holds: a numbered volume prefers the issue with that number,
and an unnumbered collection prefers the first issue. Candidates whose covers
match are unaffected. - The buttons at the bottom of Settings no longer leave "Re-run setup" alone on
a third line. They sit in two rows.
Taneleer 1.0.9
Fixed
- Collection view was slow and unresponsive. Every series card loaded a
full-size first page (2.3MB on average, up to 27 megapixels). Covers now come
from downscaled thumbnails cached on disk, load only as cards approach the
viewport, and off-screen cards skip layout. On an 86-series library, memory
fell from about 347MB to 20MB. - Collected editions and jammed names are identified more often: "Book N" and
TPB volumes, series with many volumes (Deadly Class vol. 2 and 7), subtitled
series, and names such as "seventoeternity" or ones mixing letters and digits. - Review covers were missing for locked-volume reviews, shallow searches and
issues without a year.
Changed
- ComicVine rate limiting is now explained. A footer shows the request budget,
the review panel states when a search is waiting on the limit and retries
automatically, and auto-apply stops cleanly instead of failing files. - New setting, "Prefetch next file", on by default. The indicator shows when
prefetch is paused by the budget or the rate limit.
Taneleer 1.0.8
Changed
- Faster search. The search for a comic now stops as soon as an early query
settles it, instead of always running every variant. A match on the exact
series name ends it at once; a match on a subtitled series (for example
"Powers: All the New Powers" for "powers") gets one more query first. - The file after the one on screen is searched in the background while you
review, so stepping to it shows its candidates straight away. The
background search always gives way to anything you are waiting on, and is
discarded if a series alias changes while it runs.
Taneleer 1.0.7
Fixed
- Candidate covers were blank in review. ComicVine's search now returns a
generic placeholder image instead of the real cover, so candidates showed no
cover and the cover comparison used by matching compared every candidate
against the same placeholder. The extra lookup that already fills in missing
series names now also swaps in the real cover, with no additional requests.
Taneleer 1.0.6
Fixed
- Matching found nothing close for many files because ComicVine's search now
returns issues with no series attached. Every hit then scored zero for
series similarity and was hidden, so for example Adventureman volume 1
showed only Spider-Man and He-Man results, and Deadly Class volume 1 lost
its Reagan Youth entry. Search results missing a series are now filled in
with one extra ComicVine lookup per file. If that lookup fails the results
are kept rather than lost.
Taneleer 1.0.5
Fixed
- Matching searched for the wrong name on files whose pending copy carried a
hash suffix (stem-d2ec43.cbz, used when two sources share a stem). The
suffix became part of the ComicVine search, returning unrelated comics or,
with the new suggestion floor, nothing. Matching and auto-apply now use the
source filename. - Filenames with a spelled-out issue (
darkness_issue37) no longer leave
"issue" in the series name, so they match The Darkness instead of Back Issue.
The same applies tovolume2after a title ending in digits, "Book One"
editions, hyphen-only names and trailingtp/hc/gnmarkers. - Jammed names split into whole words: plurals and past tenses
(freeagents, wecalledthemgiants),inc, and names that start or end with
a number (30daysofnight...,bladerunner2019).
Changed
- Searches that find nothing resembling the full series retry with the
subtitle or edition label trimmed, and short jammed names try a word split. - Ranking: volume, year and issue cues count in proportion to how well the
series matches, so a matching tag on the wrong series no longer wins; a
"Vol. N" tag on a subtitled series counts as a strong match; tied candidates
for a file with no issue number prefer the matching volume or the first issue. - Candidates with very low series similarity are no longer suggested. A
series you type by hand is never filtered.
Taneleer 1.0.4
Added
- Exceptions: Re-import all broken retries every Compromised file one at a
time, with progress and a Cancel button. - Re-import now shows page progress while it runs and reports the outcome:
moved to Pending, still compromised (with the new reason), or the error. - Duplicate scan: each member shows its parent folder, members whose source
file no longer exists are flagged, and Remove from manifest removes a
stale row. Source and output files are never touched. - Settings warns when PDF render DPI is above 200.
Fixed
- Large PDFs (around 1.7 GB) ran out of memory because the whole file was
loaded twice. PDFs are now read from disk on demand. - PDFs with poster-sized pages failed with out-of-memory errors. Rendered
pages are now capped at 6000 px on the longest edge. - A stalled PDF conversion now fails after 120 seconds with no progress
instead of after 20 minutes.
Taneleer 1.0.3
Maintenance release with no functional changes. It exists to confirm that
1.0.2 receives and installs updates automatically.
Taneleer 1.0.2
Fixed
- Auto-update never ran:
electron-updateris CommonJS, so itsautoUpdater
is not visible as a named export to the packaged build's ESM loader and
every check failed withCannot read properties of undefined. The updater
is now read from the module's default export. Installs of 1.0.0 and 1.0.1
need one manual update to receive this fix; updates are automatic after.
