1.0.2

@drewhallett drewhallett released this 30 Oct 20:59

A cleaner look for the RSS feed list.

Install or upgrade: download purdue-calendar-embed-1.0.2.zip below and upload it with Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin. When upgrading, choose Replace current with uploaded.

Changes

  • New list styling, matching the Purdue theme's "News and events" listing:

    • black bold event titles, underlined in gold on hover;
    • the date as a small uppercase gold line;
    • uppercase category labels;
    • rounded thumbnails and grey dividers.

    This also fixes theme styles that put a large gap between each date and title and turned titles into small gold links.

  • No raw web addresses in descriptions. Links such as Athletics box-score URLs, or "Flyer: https://…", are removed from the short event descriptions. The event title still links to the full event page.

1.0.1

@drewhallett drewhallett released this 30 Oct 20:21

Faster pages, mainly in RSS feed mode.

Install or upgrade: download purdue-calendar-embed-1.0.1.zip below and upload it with Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin. When upgrading, choose Replace current with uploaded.

Changes

  • No more waiting for the feed. When the cached events are more than 10 minutes old, the block now shows them right away and fetches the update in the background with WP-Cron. Before, whoever loaded the page at that moment waited for the ~2 MB feed to download and process, which could take 10–15 seconds. A feed is fetched on the spot only when nothing is cached yet, usually while the block is being set up in the editor.
  • Much lighter list thumbnails. The list layout now uses Localist's 200×150 and 300×225 photo sizes instead of the 750 px original: about 850 KB down to about 106 KB for five events. The cards layout is unchanged.

Sites that turn off WordPress's built-in cron trigger (DISABLE_WP_CRON) need a server cron job running WP-Cron, as they would for anything else scheduled.

1.0.0

@drewhallett drewhallett released this 29 Oct 19:33

First release for campus sites.

Install: download purdue-calendar-embed-1.0.0.zip below and upload it with Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, or unzip it into wp-content/plugins/. Then activate Purdue Calendar Embed. Requires WordPress 6.5+ and PHP 8.1+.

The block is Purdue Calendar under Widgets in the inserter. See the README for both modes (RSS feed and Localist widget embed) and how to configure them.

Changes since 0.1.0

  • Event title heading level. Feed mode has a new Display setting (H2–H6, default H3) so event titles fit the page's heading outline.
  • No more blank pages stuck in the page cache. When the feed can't be fetched, the page is marked not cacheable. After a failed fetch the block waits a minute before retrying, and serves the last good copy in the meantime.
  • Installable as downloaded. Built assets ship in the repo, and no Composer or npm step is needed on the server.
  • Added an Update URI header, so WordPress never offers an unrelated WordPress.org plugin as an update.
