Reasons for the request

I was the original owner of pysec. I had a small project running there.

Via #2320 dchaddock claimed to be part of a research group and wanted to get the package name for it.

In November 2022 I agreed to the transfer under the condition, that it actually gets substantial use: #2320 (comment)

It's now 2025 and there was just a single placeholder upload. Clearly the package is not used.

Darren seems unwilling to give the PyPI name back, although we agreed on it before: #2320 (comment)

He is also not using it at all, so this is name squatting in the sense of PEP 541 as well.

Hi @MartinThoma,

I looked at the history of your request, and per PEP 541 rules, if the current owner of the project has clearly stated they don't wish to give up their project, we cannot force them. This matter is between you and @dchaddock, because this is beyond our scope. We are not in control (nor do we wish to be!) of when and why folks change their mind regarding holding onto their projects. @dchaddock may have told you in 2022 that they may transfer it back if they are not using it, but we are now in 2025, and it's likely that they have their changed their mind.

@Thespi-Brain I think you missed my question. Why isn't https://pypi.org/project/pysec an example of name squatting?
