Reasons for the request
Yes, I believe all the listed projects are invalid and should be transferred for the following reasons, in accordance with PEP 541:
Abandoned and Empty: Every package listed in this request is an empty placeholder. They have no releases, no source code, no documentation, and provide zero functionality. They appear to have been registered only to reserve the names and have since been completely abandoned by their original owners.
Name Squatting on a Corporate Identifier: The prefixes "byted-" and "bytedance-" are specific identifiers for projects originating from our company, ByteDance. The squatting on these names prevents us from publishing our official tools and libraries, creating potential confusion and security risks for users who might expect these names to be associated with our official software.
Legitimate and Immediate Need: We have existing internal projects that correspond to these names. We intend to immediately begin publishing and maintaining official, functional packages under these names as soon as they are transferred to our official PyPI account, artifact. This action will serve the Python community by replacing empty, abandoned packages with legitimate and supported software.
In summary, the current projects are clear-cut cases of abandoned name squatting. Transferring them to us aligns with the spirit of PEP 541 by ensuring that package names are used for active, valuable projects.
Maintenance or replacement?
None
Source code repositories URLs
Regarding the source code repositories:
-
Current (Squatted) Projects: The existing projects listed in this request do not have any associated source code repositories. They are empty packages on PyPI with no functionality or code attached.
-
Our Intended Projects: Our corresponding projects are internal to our company and are hosted in private repositories. Due to company policy and the confidential nature of the code, we cannot share these URLs publicly.
However, we can provide the following public information to verify our legitimate claim to these names:
- Official Company Identity: The package prefix "byted-" is a designated identifier used exclusively for official projects at our company, ByteDance. This naming convention directly links these packages to our organization.
- Official Website: You can learn more about our company at
[https://www.bytedance.com]
- (Optional) Official GitHub Organization: If your company has a public GitHub organization page (even if the specific repositories are private), you can list it here. For example:
Our development takes place within our company organization: https://github.com/bytedance
We trust this information is sufficient to establish our legitimate need for these names. We are prepared to offer further verification to a PyPI administrator through a private communication channel if necessary.
Contact and additional research
I have reviewed the PyPI project pages for all the packages listed in this request. None of them provide an author email, a link to a user profile, or any other method of contact.
Due to this complete lack of contact information, we were unable to make any attempt to contact the current owner(s).
