The distutils readme file is outdated. It says the documentation isn't part of the standard python docs (it is, nowadays) and points you to the SIG page, where you find outdated documentation.

I've updated the README to point to the current docs on
python.org, and to request bugs/patches through SF, not via
e-mail to Greg.
