Markdown still renders incorrectly on pypi

I think you are deploying with an old version of setuptools. You need setuptools>=38.6.0 for it to work.

pip install -U setuptools should fix it..

I'm guessing wheel>=0.31.0 is the issue here.

Edit: You are making a source distribution, so it can't be wheel. You probably need to use twine to upload instead. twine upload <file>. This is what the official python docs recommend as well.

I think using wheels / binary distribution is a lot better:

python setup.py bdist_wheel
twine upload dist/<name of .whl file>

You just need the standard .pypirc for twine to work.

Hmm. I feel like there's a "testing" version of pypi somewhere that I could use. It would be great to test various upload methods without spamming the "real" pypi.

I just tested using markdown with one of my projects. Worked out out the box as long as you ensure setuptools, twine and wheel is up to date.
