Here is the current result of my attempt to port your quicklisp client code to MKCL.
I think that with MKCL 1.1.0 RC2, MKCL is now mature enough to use quicklisp fruitfully.
I hope you will find this good enough to include in your current client distribution.
BTW, this code just got me through a "(ql:quickload "vecto")" load successfully.
