Relay 0.26.1

Choose a tag to compare

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 30 Oct 16:06

TL;DR: Ultrathink for Claude in the Reasoning menu, smoother streaming answers, and a few fixes.

  • Ultrathink is in Claude's Reasoning menu: it adds the word to your message so Claude thinks harder on that one. While it's on, the composer gets a turning rainbow edge, and the sent message keeps a rainbow of its own. With the effort already at its top, the effort-up shortcut turns it on.
  • Streaming answers cost less to draw, so long answers stay smooth while they come in.
  • Open files in folders that aren't Git repositories now reload when they change on disk.
  • Searching threads no longer slides the hidden sidebar out.
  • Pages an agent shows in the chat no longer show a second scrollbar of their own.

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 29 Oct 08:45

TL;DR: The thread's details move into one Running card, permission prompts sit on the composer, and the phone opens long threads much faster.

  • The Running card beside the thread now holds what used to crowd the titlebar: the computer and its load, Hand off, the thread's folder and branch, and its changes. It stays open beside the thread, folds into a stripe in the gutter, and doesn't show on a new thread.
  • Permission prompts show as a tab on the composer: Decline, Always or Allow, and a click opens the details.
  • On the phone, finished turns arrive folded and load their steps when you open them, so long threads open several times faster. An opened fold stays where it is instead of jumping to the end, and its steps stay in the offline copy.
  • Move a started thread to any branch you pick, and a deep review runs where the picked branch is checked out. You can switch a started thread's branch from the phone too.
  • The browser panel opens several pages, and ⌘R / Ctrl+R reloads the page in front.
  • A new-shell key opens another terminal beside the one you're typing in, and ▶ sends to the shell you used last.
  • ⌘K / Ctrl+K opens thread search (⌘P / Ctrl+P still works). Opening a pull request by URL moved to ⌘⌥K / Ctrl+Alt+K.
  • Schedules are listed in the sidebar, and the Threads button on the activity bar carries the sidebar's dot. The activity bar folds away with the sidebar.
  • Servers Claude left running no longer make a thread look like it's waiting.
  • Claude's context ring measures against the point where it auto-compacts.
  • A new thread keeps the account you picked until its first message.
  • Usage meters no longer flip colour a point either side of their pace mark.
  • Gifs play in phone threads.
  • Windows and Linux get their own CLI install hints, and name the Recycle Bin and Alt+click instead of the macOS words.
  • A waiting thread's dot pulses three times, then holds, instead of pulsing forever.

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 27 Oct 11:06

TL;DR: A new activity bar down the left edge, threads you can delete, and a tidier deep review.

  • The sidebar footer is now an activity bar down the window's left edge: Threads, Search, Pull requests and Schedules at the top, the Clockify timer, Usage and Settings at the bottom. The open view is marked, and Settings gets a dot while an update you put off is waiting.
  • Delete a thread from its menu (it asks first).
  • A deep review's card shows what it covers: the branch, commit or PR, and how many reviewers. Split reviews count their reviewers properly.
  • Reviewer threads stay inside their review instead of cluttering every list, on the phone too.
  • A finished thread's report shows only as its header in the lead's thread, so the lead's own answer isn't buried.
  • Agents can move a thread into a worktree that already has the branch checked out.
  • The editor's status line shows what the changes are compared against, and inline changes use the diff view's colours.
  • Opening a changed file from a turn hides the sidebar to give the file room.
  • A search that finds nothing no longer shows as a failed call, and only the failed row in a group turns red.
  • The Pull requests board stays up while switching filters.
  • Every page now has the chat's background.
  • The Processes page is gone; the machine load still shows on the terminal's Running card.

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 26 Oct 19:16

TL;DR: A Codex command with a lot of output no longer kills the turn.

  • Codex turns no longer fail with "Codex response frame exceeds 4 MiB." when a command prints a lot, like a verbose build or test run. Relay now takes up to 64 MiB.

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 26 Oct 18:34

TL;DR: Files gets a real code editor, with language servers, find in files and a history of every save, and a turn's steps now read as a short story instead of a wall of calls.

  • The file editor is new: go to definition, find usages, rename across files, completions, hover docs, inlay hints and errors from language servers for TypeScript, PHP, Python, Rust and C++ (Relay installs the server the first time you open such a file).
  • Search Everywhere (press Shift twice) finds files, symbols and text; Find in Files searches a folder and replaces across files; the editor gets its own find and replace bar.
  • Local history keeps every save and every agent turn of a file, so you can read or restore a version you never committed.
  • Pop the editor out into its own window with ⌘⌥E (closing the window puts it back), and reopen a closed tab with ⇧⌘T.
  • The editor shows a minimap, sticky scopes, indent guides, folded imports and usages over declarations. Its bar sits under the code as a status line, and a change bar shows that change's diff, or commits just that change.
  • Files opened just to look at open as a preview tab, and the sidebar shows the thread's linked folders as trees.
  • A new Darcula theme.
  • A turn's tool calls are grouped by what they did, play out one by one while it runs and fold into one line once the agent comments. Reads are highlighted, and the code a call writes stays readable.
  • Skip on a question card lets the agent decide on its own.
  • The phone apps can ask for a second opinion under an answer and send it back to the thread. They also get the grouped steps, and Android centres the thread on wide screens.
  • Deep review splits a big change into passes; you can see them and move folders between them before it starts. Reports with more than 50 findings publish again.
  • Headless: relay settings set phone-access off turns phone access off, and a Relay in WSL no longer takes the port the Windows Relay needs.
  • Copying an answer no longer carries the dark theme's colours, and Windows paths in answers are links.
  • Fixes: the sidebar keeps its shown or hidden state across threads, the terminal no longer misses a resize while it opens, Android toasts sit above the home dock, and the Windows taskbar icon fills its square.

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 26 Oct 06:53

TL;DR: Ask another agent for a second opinion, merge pull requests right from Relay (and from the phone), and a pile of phone fixes.

  • Ask for a second opinion on any answer: pick another agent and model, it checks the answer in its own read-only thread, and its take shows under the answer. It only reaches the original agent if you send it.
  • Pull requests show whether they're ready to merge, and you can merge them on GitHub, Gitea and Azure DevOps. Merged PRs follow through to their outcome.
  • The phone app can read and review pull requests, and Android gets a Pull requests tab with a merge box.
  • Schedules can start from templates.
  • Threads started by another thread can report back to it, and agents can wake their own thread later.
  • OpenCode turns that OpenCode starts by itself now show up in the thread.
  • Agents' form questions over ACP come through the question card.
  • An answer's actions stay visible for 2s after it finishes; hovering its speed shows the cache hit.
  • Hovering a file link shows its full path; cut-off thread titles in the sidebar fade instead of ending in "…".
  • Android: offers app updates on the pairing screen, can stop Relay until the app is opened again, waits for a network instead of retrying into nothing, and bottom sheets and the thread filter behave better.
  • Phone fixes: drafts no longer vanish or come back stale, a held steer isn't shown twice, and settling a running thread works from the activity list.
  • Fixes: answer images with spaces in the path show up, quoting an answer no longer picks up button labels or its speed, the diff stat stays visible on long file names, and resizing panes is smoother.

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 24 Oct 20:33

TL;DR: Schedules, a Read only mode, ⌘F inside threads, files and videos from the phone, a 3s take-back on steers, and threads that open faster and hold far less memory.

  • Schedules: a prompt can now run on its own every day, week or month, in a project or the Scratchpad, with its own model, effort and token limit, and a test run to try it. A missed slot catches up once, a run is skipped while the last one is still going, and one that passes its token limit stops. It's under the footer's More tools for now; agents can set schedules up too, and every add or change asks you first.
  • Read only access mode: the agent reads and runs read-only commands but changes no files, the way a deep review's reviewers work. Agents can start Read only threads for second opinions.
  • New threads start on the access mode you used last, here or on the phone. With none picked yet, that's Auto-accept edits instead of Full access.
  • ⌘F finds words in the open thread and steps through the matches, including older messages that haven't loaded yet.
  • ⌘⌥↑/↓ steps through your Activity threads and wraps at the ends; hold it to run down the cards.
  • A steer waits 3s, counting down, before the agent gets it, so × or editing your last message takes it back. A held steer looks like the message it's about to become, on the phone too.
  • Threads an agent starts show as their agents' marks, each with asking, working or done, in the tool call, the turn's heading and by the composer; the card lists each thread's latest line and opens it. A turn's summary counts the threads it started.
  • A turn's heading shows which background agents are still working instead of "Ran 3 agents" as if they were done; hover for each one's model, effort and time.
  • An agent can move its thread to another project, say a Scratchpad chat that grew into a real one, after you confirm. It carries on there mid-answer.
  • The phone apps attach videos and files, compressed and resumable after a dropped connection. Those files also go along when a thread is handed off to another computer.
  • Codex subagents show their reasoning effort.
  • Thread search shows each thread's model and branch.
  • Android: a bigger header capsule, and ✕ closes search.
  • Speed: threads open faster (fewer messages mounted at first, markdown parsed once and reused), and only the turns that started agents re-render. The sidebar, message times, marking a thread seen, the Processes page and long answers' checkpoints all do less work.
  • Memory: Relay keeps at most four idle agent sessions warm. Before, every thread touched in the last half hour kept one, and an idle Claude session holds 450-850MB.
  • OpenCode: updating it no longer leaves threads stuck on errors with long histories, and steers OpenCode 2.1 picks up no longer land below their answer.
  • A hosted agent no longer goes silent after a failed take-back.
  • While compacting, the cold-cache message stays ahead of steers you send meanwhile, and the compacting dots no longer change width.
  • Android: a folded trace no longer leaves a blank gap in the thread.
  • The phone names Relay's tools the way the desktop does.
  • Smaller fixes: the window buttons line up with the sidebar toggle, quick switch starts at the first preset and wraps at the ends, the Settings search field no longer clips its caret, image pills stop flickering and rereading missing files, the started-threads chip by the composer stays put, and unticking compact-first survives the composer remounting.
  • Every host Relay talks to is now listed in the docs, with what it's for and how to turn the automatic ones off.

Relay 0.21.0

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 23 Oct 10:52

TL;DR: Comment on pages in the browser, run a deep review round from any thread, send as many images as you like, and Relay now counts its users (anonymously, and you can turn it off).

  • Relay now counts its users. Once a day it tells ping.relaycode.io it's in use: its version, the system, and whether it's desktop or headless. No ID, and the address isn't kept. Turn it off with Count me as a user in Settings → About, relay settings on a headless Relay, or DO_NOT_TRACK=1.
  • Comment on elements right in the browser preview. Your comments travel with the screenshot and survive pastes, copies and edits in the composer.
  • Agents can start a deep review round in any thread, reviewing the folder that thread works in, with the thread's own agent leading. Each round keeps its own fixes and checkout.
  • Deep review remembers the last base branch per project, and its card splits changed lines into code, tests, fixtures and docs like pull requests do.
  • No more limit on how many images a message carries, on the desktop or the phones. Big sends from the phone go up in batches instead of failing.
  • Folder paths in answers that sit outside the project open in Finder, Explorer or your file manager. Links to files outside the project now work on Windows too.
  • Activity can hide thread branches, and a shelved thread shows its time on the branch line.
  • Failed tool calls show in red in the trace.
  • The phone gets notified after 10min without input instead of 2min, so reading a long answer no longer floods it. Locking or sleeping the computer still hands off at once.
  • Claude and Codex can be steered with a $skill mid-turn.
  • Switching agents right after a fork writes a proper handoff note again.
  • The model picker keeps one height when switching tabs.

Relay 0.20.0

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 22 Oct 16:58

TL;DR: Preferences live in a settings.json you can script, the composer can guess your next message, and a new status strip replaces the usage footer.

  • Preferences (theme, typography, chat width, send keys, keep awake, when threads settle) now live in a settings.json file: ~/.config/relay/ on macOS and Linux (or $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/relay/), %APPDATA%\Relay\ on Windows. Edit it from a script or an editor and every open window follows at once; a broken file shows where it broke instead of wiping your settings.
  • The composer can suggest your next message after a longer turn: Tab takes it, Escape dismisses it. Off by default, turn it on in Settings → Composer.
  • The usage footer is now a status strip with usage rings and compact reset times, and it says why a saved reset can't be used yet.
  • The model picker offers to install a missing agent or sign in to it right there, here or on a paired computer, instead of showing a Default that can't run.
  • Import from another app has "Ask an agent…": an agent reads your Codex or Claude history and proposes which projects and chats to bring over, with a list you tick.
  • Antigravity gets separate Google accounts, its own questions, planning, subagents and quota readings, and compaction.
  • OpenCode now steers, forks, answers side questions and runs subagents natively.
  • Codex shows an estimated breakdown of what fills its context.
  • Agents' multiple-choice questions show their real options, and usage limits split into each quota pool, on desktop and the phone.
  • Claude connection failures show once, with a way to recover.
  • The working tree refreshes with a single git status, and the app polls less while its window is in the background.
  • Fixes: side questions stay in order when one is cancelled, steers OpenCode got stuck on, agents losing text written right before a tool call, shortcuts blocked by passive notices, and the Android thread jumping as rows settle.

Relay 0.19.4

@lubomirmolin lubomirmolin released this 21 Oct 10:24

TL;DR: A fix for the interface growing on every launch, select all when importing projects, and steadier handoffs.

  • The interface scale no longer grows a little more each time Relay starts.
  • Importing projects has a "select all".
  • Handing a thread straight back out right after bringing it home no longer fails with "already on its way".
  • Much lighter on your disk while answers stream: a long thread no longer gets rewritten in full every second, only what changed.
