WinFocus 1.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@rhrusha rhrusha released this 04 Sep 11:11

Maintenance release preparing the winget package.

  • winfocus.exe --version prints the version; the exe now carries a Windows version resource (file and product version 1.0.1).
  • New winget manifest under winget/manifests for submission to the community repository.
  • README: winget install rhrusha.WinFocus instructions and the required order for upgrade and uninstall (winfocus --stop or --uninstall first, because a running exe cannot be replaced).

No behavior changes to the frames.

The exe is not code-signed, so SmartScreen may warn on first run. Requires Windows 10 or 11.

@rhrusha rhrusha released this 03 Sep 18:16

First public release.

WinFocus draws a thin colored border around the monitor that holds the focused window, and a second border around the focused window itself (hidden while that window is maximized or fullscreen). Native Win32, single 150 KB exe, no runtime, no tray icon, no service.

Install

  1. Save winfocus.exe somewhere permanent, for example C:\Tools\WinFocus\.
  2. From a terminal in that folder: winfocus.exe --install and approve the administrator prompt.

To remove: winfocus.exe --uninstall. See the README for options such as colors and widths.

Notes

  • The exe is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC" on first run. Choose "More info" and "Run anyway", or build from source with build.cmd.
  • Requires Windows 10 or 11.
