SASM 3.17.0 for macOS Apple Silicon

This is an unofficial macOS ARM64 release of SASM, based on upstream SASM 3.16.0.

What's new

  • Migrated the application to Qt 6.8+ (packaged with Qt 6.12.0).
  • Added System, Light, Dark, and Custom appearance options, including editor themes.
  • Added background GitHub release checks with signed-app replacement, SHA-256 verification, and an Install and Relaunch option.
  • Fixed the macOS startup crash by loading the bundled Qt 6 Cocoa platform plugin and frameworks correctly.
  • Fixed NASM Mach-O platform metadata, eliminating the linker warning about a missing platform load command for new macOS builds.
  • Improved Apple Silicon and Intel x86-64 build/run defaults, Homebrew NASM detection, LLDB debugging, and included examples.
  • Added release packaging, dependency checks, signing verification, and automated application tests.

Download and install

Download SASM-3.17.0-macos.1-macOS-arm64.zip, extract sasm.app, and drag it to Applications. This binary requires Apple Silicon and macOS 27.0 or newer due to its bundled dependencies. NASM is installed separately with brew install nasm; Rosetta 2 is needed to run assembled Intel x86-64 programs.

This app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized, so macOS may prompt you to approve the app on first launch. See the README for installation details.

Verification

The application bundle and archive were verified, update tests passed, and the extracted, relocated, signed application successfully launched using the native Cocoa plugin with a Finder-like environment.
