Fixed

  • The update and already-running paths can be read. Two exits happened too
fast to be read, and both made a failed action look like a successful one.

An update that could not install still printed "this process will exit now"
and exited, so a version that never changed looked updated. The notice now
names what actually blocks the install — npm replaces the package by
renaming its directory, which Windows refuses while any process holds it,
and the hold can outlive the process that took it — and prints the command
to run by hand. The menu holds the notice for 30 seconds instead of
exiting, and the installer stops cartethyia/carte first so the rename
    has a chance.

A second instance reported "already running" and exited immediately, so a
double-clicked shortcut or a re-run in a terminal that is already serving
closed the window before the reason could be seen. It now waits 30 seconds
    before closing.
