RubyNewbies Code of Conduct

Back to RubyNewbies site

All members of the RubyNewbies community are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Admins will enforce this code throughout organized discussions, and at all times throughout the community. In the RubyNewbies community, members from all over the world come together to discuss ruby.

This Code of Conduct document offers some guidance to ensure Rubynewbies members can cooperate effectively in a positive and inspiring atmosphere, and to explain how together we can strengthen and support each other. Our goal is to encourage respectable and kind discussion.

Overview

This Code of Conduct presents a summary of the shared values in our community. The basic concepts that will hold this community together in a positive manner are:

  1. Be respectful
  2. Be considerate
  3. [Support others in the community](# support-others-in-the-community)

This Code of Conduct reflects the the standard that all community members agree to within the RubyNewbies community. The community acts according to the standards written down in this Code of Conduct and will defend these standards for the benefit of the community. Leaders of any group, such as moderators of, will exercise the right to suspend access to any person who aggressively or persistently breaks our shared Code of Conduct.

Be respectful

In order for the RubyNewbies community to stay healthy, its members must feel comfortable and accepted. Treating one another with respect is absolutely necessary for this. In a disagreement, in the first instance assume that people mean well.

We do not tolerate personal attacks, racism, sexism or any other form of discrimination. Disagreement is inevitable, from time to time, but respect for the views of others will go a long way to winning respect for your own view. Respecting other people, their work, their contributions and assuming well-meaning motivation will make community members feel comfortable and safe and will result in motivation and productivity. We expect members of our community to be respectful when dealing with other contributors and members. This is the most important aspect to this community. Members who break this rule will be banned from the community. We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any discussion, AMA, or organized event. Members violating these rules will be banned. Harassment includes, but is not limited to: Personal insults or intimidating language Graphic comments related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race or religion Sexually explicit or violent material Sustained disruption of discussion Posting (or threatening to post) other people’s personally identifying information Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior Repeated harassment of others. In general, if someone asks you to stop, then stop

Be considerate

Your language use is the leading factor in the success of this community. Any message you post will affect other community members, and we expect you to take those consequences into account when making decisions.

As a member, we expect you to take the time to consider the plethora of different ethnicities, sexes, religions, age categories, etc we we have in our community. So be careful with how you express yourself. This is not a private group where anything goes so please consider that.

If you are frustrated your messages are more likely to be understood if you can give accurate and well-mannered information to all concerned.

We are not here to argue.
