External link in SUMMARY.md or navbar

I'm serving an mdbook at a subdomain and need to add a link to my main site so it is quickly accessible from any page on the book. Adding external link in SUMMARY.md isn't supported (issue #919) and I don't seem to find a way to add it at the top of the book.

Any suggestions?

You can add it via index.hbs.

I couldn't figure this out even with looking at the wiki entry on index.hbs, does someone have an example of the working source code?

@SuperNici Have a look at this file, this is how I added a link to my homepage at the top of the book.

Make a directory called theme in the root and copy index.hbs file inside, then modify it as needed. If you want to use a custom favicon for your site, put favicon.svg in this directory as well.
