s3g-clap-max v0.7.0
s3g-clap-max v0.7.0
Bring s3g-dsp CLAP plugins into Max 9 and Ableton Live with s3g.clap~ and a
ready-to-use collection of Max for Live devices. The s3g-dsp plugins are a
separate download and must be installed too.
What's new
- Max for Live devices: 123 dedicated plugin wrappers on macOS, covering
instruments, effects, ambisonic tools, decoders, panners, and utilities.
The Windows package includes 122; Ambi Energy 64 is unavailable in the
matching Windows s3g-dsp collection. - Flexible routing: Bus Send 36 and Bus Receive 36 carry multichannel
audio between tracks. Bus to Live Stereo 36 returns a selected stereo pair
to Live, while Main Hardware Out 32 handles multichannel interface output.
These buses are independent of Envelop for Live. - MIDI in Live: Tracker, Relay, and the MIDI utilities can feed an
instrument later on the same track. MIDI Bus to Live connects their optional
cross-track MIDI bus to ordinary Live instruments. - Set recall and automation: Wrappers save CLAP plugin state with the Live
Set and expose selected controls for Live automation.
Fixes
- Reduced clicks and dropouts when adjusting CLAP editor controls during
playback in Live. The previously reported LF Synth 2 slider clicks stopped
in the tested macOS session. Opening an editor for the first time may still
cause a brief interruption. - Corrected Live tempo delivery to CLAP plugins: Tracker now shows 120 BPM
when Live is set to 120 BPM, rather than 22,050. - Corrected the Windows DSP-start crash seen with the older v0.5.0 external.
A separately built v0.7.0 external passed unloaded and loaded-CLAP audio
tests in native Windows Max. The downloadable Windows ZIP itself and its
Max for Live devices still need native testing, so the Windows package is
labeled experimental.
Install and compatibility
Install the s3g-dsp CLAP plugins
first. On macOS, download the universal ZIP, unzip it, and run
Install s3g-clap-max.command with Max and Live closed. On Windows x64,
follow the manual steps in INSTALL-WINDOWS.md inside the experimental ZIP.
Restart Max and Live after installation. Ableton devices require Live with
Max for Live; Live cannot load CLAP plugins directly.
The macOS package is not notarized; approve it in macOS Privacy & Security
only if you trust the download. Sample plugins' PROJECT storage does not
collect audio into a Live Project; use LINK or EMBED where supported. Ten
64/128-channel bus processors do not have dedicated Live wrappers in this
release. For device names and routing examples, see the
README.
s3g-clap-max v0.4.1
s3g-clap-max v0.4.1
This release combines native Max multichannel-signal support introduced in v0.4.0 with more flexible channel-width handling in v0.4.1.
v0.4.1 — Flexible Max channel widths
Channel arguments now specify the channels visible in Max rather than requiring the plugin’s full static CLAP port width.
A fixed 64-output ambisonic plugin can expose only the 16 channels needed for 3OA:
[s3g.clap~ 0 16 "s3g Ambi Encoder Stochastic" @mc 1]- Host CLAP plugins that report more channels than the Max object exposes.
- Hidden plugin input channels receive silence.
- Hidden plugin output channels are safely discarded.
- Incoming MC signals are truncated or zero-padded to the requested width.
- The
loadedmessage continues to report the plugin’s full native channel counts.
v0.4.0 — Native Max MC support
Add @mc 1 to expose one Max multichannel inlet and one multichannel outlet:
[s3g.clap~ 16 16 @mc 1]- Native Max MC input and output topology.
- Discrete signal mode remains supported and is the default.
- A zero input or output count omits that signal connection.
- The rightmost status outlet remains a standard Max message outlet.
- Missing MC input channels are safely zero-padded.
@mcis construction-time-only; recreate the object to change modes.- Plugin names and
@mc 1can be used together during object creation.
Verification
- Encoder Stochastic processes through a 16-channel Max output while retaining its 64-channel CLAP port.
- Array HPF 16 passes silent-input, partial-input, and narrowed-output checks.
- Native-editor and final-instance shutdown regressions pass.
- Universal arm64/x86_64 macOS external.
- Ad-hoc signed.
Installation
Unzip the archive and place the s3g-clap-max folder in:
~/Documents/Max 9/Packages/
Restart Max and open s3g.clap~.maxhelp.

s3g-clap-max v0.3.0
s3g-clap-max release notes
v0.3.0 — 2026-08-07
This release adds automatic CLAP discovery while retaining all v0.2.1 host
features and shutdown protections.
Added
-
Load plugins by bundle filename, display name, or bundle identifier.
-
Use a plugin name directly in the Max object:
[s3g.clap~ 0 64 "s3g Ambi Encoder Stochastic"] -
Use a name with the
openmessage:open "Encoder Stochastic" -
Search
CLAP_PATHentries before the platform-standard CLAP locations. -
Recursively discover
.clapbundles without loading their executables. -
Ignore case, spaces, underscores, hyphens, and punctuation during matching.
-
Accept unique partial names and report candidate paths for ambiguous names.
-
Report active discovery roots with the
getpathsmessage.
Verification
- Exact bundle-name, human-readable-name, bundle-identifier,
CLAP_PATH, and
ambiguity behavior are covered by the host smoke test. - Encoder Stochastic is exercised with its native editor, 0-input/64-output
topology, final-instance close, module reuse, and autorelease-pool shutdown.
v0.2.1 — 2026-08-06
Initial distribution of s3g.clap~, a native Max/MSP external for hosting
CLAP audio plugins.
Features
- Load macOS
.clapbundles through a native selection dialog or direct path. - Process audio with fixed input and output channel counts selected when the
Max object is created. - Enumerate, inspect, and control CLAP parameters.
- Send and receive MIDI events.
- Read and write plugin state through the CLAP state extension.
- Host embedded and floating native Cocoa plugin editors.
- Use a control interface modeled after the useful parts of Max's
vst~
object.
Shutdown fix
v0.2.1 keeps initialized CLAP modules mapped for Max's process lifetime. This
prevents crashes when Max closes while a plugin's Cocoa editor still has
pending Objective-C objects. The fix was verified with the 64-output
s3g Ambi Encoder Stochastic plugin and its native editor open.
Installation
- Unzip
s3g-clap-max-0.3.0-macos-universal.zip. - Place the resulting
s3g-clap-maxfolder in
~/Documents/Max 9/Packages/. - Restart Max.
- Open
s3g.clap~.maxhelp.
The included external is an ad-hoc-signed universal macOS binary supporting
Apple Silicon and Intel.
