MeTube Lite + Super 2.6.0

Folders on the server, downloads that didn't finish, and a batch of fixes for both apps. It installs over 2.5.1 or any earlier 2.x and keeps your settings and library.

Added

• Folders on the server (MeTube Super). The add sheet has a "Folder" row: pick any folder the server already has, nested or empty ones included, or make a new one (Ai/Lessons), and the clip is saved straight into it, where the network share and any other app see it. Following a channel offers "Save in its own folder", named after the channel or picked the same way. The library can be filtered by folder, and a clip's details show its folder. Leave it at "No folder" and nothing changes.
• Downloads that didn't finish on the server (MeTube Super). One line at the top of the library says how many downloads the server stopped with an error, whoever added them: this phone, a subscription, MeTube's own page or another device. Each can be retried with the quality, format and folder it was added with, or removed, and several at once. Removing touches the failed ones only; everything that finished, which is what your library shows, stays exactly as it is.
• The diagnostic log follows itself. New lines appear as they are written, and scrolling down brings out a small arrow that goes to the newest line in one tap. Both apps.

Folders need two things on the server

MeTube's defaults cover the first (CUSTOM_DIRS and CREATE_CUSTOM_DIRS are on). The second: no outtmpl in YTDL_OPTIONS, which saves every file at the top of the downloads whatever folder is chosen. If yours has one, move the template to MeTube's own variables:

Thanks to @Kasull-454 for #25, which started this.

Fixed

• Clips in a server folder could not be played or pulled. A clip MeTube saved in a folder (from its web page, DEFAULT_FOLDER, or an OUTPUT_TEMPLATE with subfolders) was refused. It now plays, pulls and keeps its subtitles. Reported with a fix by @Kasull-454 in #25. Both apps.
• Audio on a server with its own audio folder. With AUDIO_DOWNLOAD_DIR set, no audio download could be played or pulled. Both apps.
• Sharing a clip opened the previous one. When Android had closed the app in the background, a new share brought back the last link and lost the new one. Both apps.
• The clipboard bar kept offering a link already downloaded, on every return to the app and after a restart. Both apps.
• The tags sheet with many tags pushed the field for a new tag off the screen. Also from @Kasull-454.
• A coloured tile in the status bar. Notifications now show a white icon at the top of the screen, like every other app. Both apps.
• A failed download's reason was cut and jumbled in Arabic. It is now one clear sentence. Both apps.

Verified on a Galaxy S22 Ultra running Android 16, against a real MeTube server.

الجديد:

• Super — المجلدات على السيرفر: اختر مجلداً في ورقة بدء التحميل، من مجلدات السيرفر نفسها بتداخلها أو مجلداً جديداً، فيُحفظ المقطع فيه مباشرة وتراه في مشاركة الشبكة وأي برنامج آخر. ولقناة تتابعها «احفظ في مجلد خاص بها». وتُفرز المكتبة بالمجلد، وتعرض تفاصيل المقطع مجلده. واتركه «بلا مجلد» فلا يتغير شيء.
• Super — تحميلات لم تكتمل على السيرفر: سطر أعلى المكتبة يذكر عدد التحميلات التي أوقفها السيرفر بخطأ، أياً كان من أضافها: هذا الجوال أو اشتراك أو صفحة MeTube أو جهاز آخر. لكلٍّ «إعادة المحاولة» بالجودة والصيغة والمجلد نفسها أو الإزالة، وللكل معاً. والإزالة تمسّ الفاشل وحده؛ كل ما اكتمل، وهو ما تعرضه مكتبتك، يبقى كما هو تماماً.
• سجلات التشخيص تتحدث وحدها، وعند التمرير للأسفل يظهر سهم صغير ينقلك إلى أحدث سطر بنقرة.

لتعمل المجلدات يحتاج السيرفر أمرين: الأول مفعّل افتراضياً في MeTube (CUSTOM_DIRS وCREATE_CUSTOM_DIRS). والثاني ألا يكون في YTDL_OPTIONS المفتاح outtmpl، لأنه يحفظ كل ملف أعلى التنزيلات أياً كان المجلد. إن كان عندك فانقل القالب إلى متغيرات MeTube: OUTPUT_TEMPLATE بالقيمة %(title)s [%(id)s].%(ext)s (ومثله اختيارياً OUTPUT_TEMPLATE_PLAYLIST وOUTPUT_TEMPLATE_CHANNEL)، واحذف "outtmpl": "…", من YTDL_OPTIONS وأبقِ الباقي. لا يتحرك شيء مما نزل قبل، والتطبيق ينبّهك في قائمة المجلدات إن ظل السيرفر يتجاهلها. الخطوات كاملة، ومعها TrueNAS، في SERVER-SETUP.md. والشكر لـ @Kasull-454 على #25 الذي بدأ هذا.

الإصلاحات:

• مقاطع مجلدات السيرفر لا تعمل: المقطع الذي يحفظه MeTube في مجلد كان يُرفض، فصار يعمل ويُسحب ويحتفظ بترجمته. بلاغ وإصلاح من @Kasull-454 في #25.
• الصوتيات على سيرفر له مجلد صوت مستقل (AUDIO_DOWNLOAD_DIR) صارت تعمل وتُسحب.
• مشاركة مقطع كانت تفتح المقطع السابق إن كان أندرويد قد أغلق التطبيق في الخلفية، وتضيع المشاركة الجديدة.
• شريط الحافظة كان يعرض رابطاً حُمّل من قبل عند كل عودة للتطبيق وبعد إعادة تشغيله.
• ورقة الوسوم مع وسوم كثيرة كانت تدفع حقل الوسم الجديد خارج الشاشة. من @Kasull-454 أيضاً.
• أيقونة ملوّنة في الشريط العلوي: صارت الإشعارات تعرض أيقونة بيضاء كبقية التطبيقات.
• سبب فشل التحميل كان مقطوعاً ومقلوباً بالعربية، فصار جملة واحدة واضحة.

MeTube Lite + Super 2.5.1

A fix release for both apps. It installs over 2.5.0, 2.4.0 or any earlier 2.x and keeps your settings and library. Coming from 2.4.0? Everything 2.5.0 added is listed below the fixes.

Fixed

• A shared link's sheet vanished at once. With the app left on the video player, a share brought it back to the library and the add sheet closed a fraction of a second later, so the link had to be shared again. The sheet now stays. The "Paste link" shortcut had the same fault. Both apps.
• An odd fade on YouTube clips. Going back to the library, the page faded but the picture stayed whole over it to the last moment; leaving full screen, the page faded over a player with no picture. YouTube clips now fade like any other. Both apps.
• A song in the video player could close the app on some older devices, as in a playlist mixing videos and songs. Both apps.

New in 2.5.0

• Tablets. On a tablet, upright or on its side, both apps use the room instead of stretching the phone layout: a side rail for navigation, settings in two panes, and the library in columns, with the list shown as a table. Held sideways, a "Now playing" panel sits beside the library, and a video plays beside its details and queue. Small 8-inch tablets count too. Phones are unchanged.
• MeTube Super: subtitles over the video. A clip with a transcript can show its words over the picture as they are said. A clip with subtitles in two languages switches between them with one button, and in the shorts with a tap on the words themselves. Settings has the size, the background behind the words, and an option for the shorts.
• MeTube Super: the transcript in the shorts, from a button in the side column, and a picture beside each clip under "Said inside clips".
• Settings open on a short home page. Three groups (server, app, data), each row showing the setting as it stands. Every setting works as before, only its place changed. Both apps.
• Square covers for music in the audio player, the mini player, the media notification and the lock screen. Both apps.
• Additional protection for your server's sign-in details. Super only.
• Smoother progress on the server, instead of jumps from 30 to 60 to 100, and no more "The address responds but has no MeTube API" on a working server. Both apps.
• Clearer Arabic, and fixes for videos that would not start on some older devices and for AV1 clips drawn with green lines. Both apps.

بالعربية: إصدار إصلاحات للتطبيقين، يُثبَّت فوق 2.5.0 أو 2.4.0 أو أي إصدار 2.x سابق ويحتفظ بالإعدادات والمكتبة. وإن كنت تحدّث من 2.4.0، فستجد تحت الإصلاحات كل ما أضافه 2.5.0.

الإصلاحات:

• ورقة الرابط المشارَك كانت تختفي فوراً: إن كان التطبيق متروكاً على مشغّل الفيديو، أعادته المشاركة إلى المكتبة وأُغلقت الورقة بعد جزء من الثانية، فكان لا بد من مشاركة الرابط مرة أخرى. صارت الورقة تبقى، وأُصلح اختصار «لصق رابط» كذلك.
• تلاشٍ غريب في مقاطع يوتيوب: عند الرجوع إلى المكتبة كانت الصفحة تتلاشى والصورة باقية فوقها حتى آخر لحظة، وعند الخروج من الشاشة الكاملة كانت الصفحة تتلاشى فوق مشغّل بلا صورة. صارت مقاطع يوتيوب تتلاشى كغيرها.
• أغنية في مشغّل الفيديو قد تُغلق التطبيق على بعض الأجهزة القديمة، كما في قائمة تجمع فيديوهات وأغاني.

الجديد في 2.5.0:

• التابلت: صار التطبيقان يستفيدان من مساحة التابلت، عمودياً أو أفقياً: شريط تنقّل جانبي، وإعدادات في لوحتين، ومكتبة في أعمدة. وحين يكون أفقياً تجاور لوحةُ «قيد التشغيل» المكتبةَ، ويُعرض الفيديو بجانب تفاصيله وقائمته. ويشمل ذلك التابلتات الصغيرة بقياس 8 بوصات.
• Super — ترجمة فوق الفيديو: يعرض المقطع الذي له نص كلماته فوق الصورة لحظة نطقها، والمقطع الذي له ترجمة بلغتين ينتقل بينهما بزر واحد، وفي القِصار بالضغط على الكلمات نفسها.
• Super — النص في القِصار من زر في العمود الجانبي، وصورة بجانب كل مقطع في نتائج «قيل داخل المقاطع».

• A download no longer counts as done before it is. The server fetches a clip's subtitles, video and audio one after another; the app took the first finished piece for the whole clip. Super's progress could stand still, and Lite could fail with "The address responds but has no MeTube API". Both apps.
• Videos that would not start on some older devices, and AV1 clips drawn with green lines on phones without an AV1 decoder in hardware. Both apps.
• Sharing the same link again did nothing after its sheet was closed. Both apps.
• MeTube Super: a download lost when the app switched servers, for a link shared just as the phone woke away from home.
• The library at large text sizes, a song showing a black frame in a mixed playlist, the downloads sheet leaping up when the last download finished, and every error now written to the diagnostic log. Both apps.

A feature release for both apps. It installs over 2.3.0 or any earlier 2.x and
keeps your settings and library.

Added

• MeTube Super: transcripts for what your server downloads by itself.
  "Search inside clips" used to cover only the YouTube clips added from the
  app. Set your MeTube to write subtitles beside each download (one
  YTDL_OPTIONS line, in the
  setup guide),
  and Super reads those files in the background: what a subscription brings,
  what the web page or a batch downloads, from any site that has subtitles.
  It reads the app's language and English, asks for each file once, and a
  server without the line changes nothing.

Changed

• MeTube Super: a paused subscription slides to its place at the end of
  the list, instead of vanishing from under your finger.
• The server card shows that it is checking: the arrows in the cloud turn
  while the connection is tested, also for a moment on a fast home network
  when you press refresh. Both apps.

Fixed

• A portrait clip fills the screen standing up. Full screen used to turn
  the phone sideways for every clip, so a portrait clip too long for the
  shorts player sat small in the middle. A landscape clip still turns. Both
  apps.
• The video time reads position, then length in Arabic too; it showed
  "3:02 / 1:20". Both apps.

Verified on a Galaxy S22 Ultra running Android 16, against a real MeTube
server writing subtitle files.

• Super — نصوص ما ينزّله سيرفرك بنفسه: كان «البحث داخل المقاطع» يشمل مقاطع يوتيوب المضافة من التطبيق وحدها. اضبط MeTube ليكتب الترجمة بجانب كل تنزيل (سطر واحد في YTDL_OPTIONS، في دليل الإعداد)، فيقرأ Super تلك الملفات في الخلفية: ما تجلبه الاشتراكات، وما ينزّل من صفحة الويب أو دفعةً، ومن أي موقع له ترجمة. يقرأ لغة التطبيق والإنجليزية، ويسأل عن كل ملف مرة واحدة، والسيرفر الذي لم يُضبط لا يتغيّر فيه شيء.

MeTube Lite + Super 2.3.0

A feature release for both apps. It installs over 2.2.1 or any earlier 2.x and
keeps your settings and library.

Added

• MeTube Super: search inside your clips. Turn on Settings → Transcripts →
  "Search inside clips", and each YouTube clip you add has its subtitles
  fetched from your server first and kept on the phone. A library search then
  also lists the clips in which your words were said, with the second for
  each; tap a line to play from there. Arabic is found with or without hamza
  or vowel marks. YouTube clips only for now, and the transcripts stay on the
  phone: export them from the same section to move them.
• MeTube Super: read along while you listen or watch. A clip with a
  transcript gets a transcript button in the audio player, on the video page
  and in full screen. The line being said is marked and follows the playback,
  a tap jumps to any line, and the transcript can be searched on its own.
• What's new, once after an update. The first launch on a new version
  shows what changed, in your language and only what concerns your app.
  Settings → Updates opens it again. Both apps.
• A "next" button on the mini player while a list plays. Both apps.
• The downloads arrow moves while something downloads, so a glance says
  whether work is going on. Both apps.
• Songs are marked in the library with a small music note. Both apps.

Changed

• The media notification closes with ✕ instead of a stop square, and a
  clip with no artist shows its playlist or platform under the title. Both
  apps.

Fixed

• Closing the player removes its notification. Since 2.2.0 a dead
  notification stayed behind after closing the player. Both apps.
• The video player no longer stutters with a long queue. Both apps.
• A clip's menu shows every row, "Delete" included, without scrolling.
  Both apps.
• The library search keeps its words after scrolling far down and back.
  Both apps.
• Titles in another language read the right way round, with "!" and "…"
  at the correct end. Both apps.
• The audio player fits the smallest phones at the largest text size.
  Both apps.
• MeTube Super: a video's resolution shows at once in its details.

Verified on a Galaxy S22 Ultra running Android 16, in light and dark themes
and in Arabic and English, with an update from 2.2.1 installed over it.

MeTube Lite + Super 2.2.1

A fix release for both apps. It installs over 2.2.0 or 2.1.0 and keeps your
settings and library.

Fixed

• The notification, lock-screen, car and headphone buttons no longer stop
  responding. When Android restarted the app's audio service while the app
  itself kept running, every button outside the app was ignored: the song
  played on, and only closing and reopening the app brought the buttons back.
  They now reach the player whatever restarted the service. Both apps.

Verified on a Galaxy S22 Ultra running Android 16: the fault was produced on
purpose on the device. With the old code, pause and play from outside the app
were ignored; with this release the media keys, the notification and the lock
screen all respond.

Coming from 2.1.0? Also new since then

• MeTube Super: follow a channel, and its new videos arrive by
  themselves. Settings → Subscriptions: paste a channel or playlist link and
  choose a quality; your MeTube server downloads each new video into your

MeTube Lite + Super 2.2.0

A feature release for both apps. It installs over 2.1.0 and keeps your
settings and library.

Added

• MeTube Super: follow a channel, and its new videos arrive by
  themselves. Settings → Subscriptions: paste a channel or playlist link,
  choose a quality and how often to look, and your MeTube server downloads
  each new video into the same library as everything else. Only what is
  published from then on is fetched. Each subscription can be paused,
  renamed, checked on the spot, limited to titles containing a word, or
  opened in the channel's own app. Needs a MeTube recent enough to have
  subscriptions — an older one says so instead of showing an empty list.
• MeTube Super: a notice when something arrives. One notice for the
  batch, naming what came, never for what you downloaded yourself. It
  appears when the app next reaches the server, not while the phone sleeps,
  and it can be switched off.
• MeTube Super: cookies from the phone, for several platforms at once.
  For sites that want a login, pick the cookies files exported from your
  browser — one or several — and they are merged into the single file the
  server keeps. The screen says which sites went in. Nothing is stored on
  the phone.
• The details show what a file really is. The server only records that
  you asked for "best"; the details now read the file itself — resolution,
  codec, frame rate, audio and bitrate. "Best" turns out to be, say,
  4K · AV1 · 60 fps. Both apps.
• A glow that moves around the cover in the audio player, in the app's
  own colour. It settles when you pause, and stays still when animations
  are turned off in Android. Both apps.

Fixed

• Music playlists behave like a music player. A song you skip to starts
  from the top (only something ten minutes or longer resumes); "Previous"
  restarts the song first, as car stereos expect; and a playlist left
  paused for a long time comes back whole from the car or earphones, not as
  one lonely clip. Both apps.
• The queue opens on the song that is playing, even at the end of a
  long playlist. Both apps.
• In Arabic, media time runs left to right — progress bars, the mini
  player and the reels — like most music players, the system's media
  controls and car stereos. Both apps.
• Downloads no longer hang at 0% while the file is already on the
  server. A Reddit link from the share button, or a Vimeo clip taken from
  its author's page, is filed by the server under a different address; the
  app now follows it, so Lite pulls and cleans as it should, and cancelling
  really stops the download on the server. Both apps.
• A stream that keeps dropping is given up on instead of being retried
  for ever with the screen kept awake. Both apps.
• A clip added to or removed from a playlist shows at once. Both apps.
• MeTube Super: coming back to the app refreshes the library.
• A phone in a language the app does not have gets English, not
  Arabic — German, French and the rest. Both apps.
• Notifications follow the app's language. With the language on
  "System", download and arrival notices came out in Arabic on any phone.
  Both apps.
• Large files read in gigabytes: 3.0 GB, not 3000 MB. Both apps.
• Smaller fixes: "Other" is translated; channel names stay whole in a
  mixed-language line; the update sheet shows the release notes as text,
  not Markdown symbols; a cover that fails to load no longer leaves a black
  square; the add button stays on screen at the largest font size; the
  favourites tag no longer appears among your own tags (Super).

Verified on a Galaxy S22 Ultra running Android 16: subscriptions have run
against a real MeTube server since September 20, the playlist, queue
and Arabic-direction fixes were reproduced on the device before they were
fixed and checked there after, and playback was tried in a car.

MeTube Lite + Super 2.1.0

A feature release for both apps. It installs over 2.0.x and keeps your
settings and library.

Added

• MeTube Super: the server card says what the server holds and what it
  runs. Under the address: how many files are on it, how many are queued,
  and which MeTube version it reports — with a line when a newer MeTube
  release is out. A server that reports dev, or is too old to answer, is
  shown as "unknown" and never told it is out of date.
• MeTube Lite finishes, at the next launch, the downloads it could not.
  Every download is written down before it is sent, so when the app is
  killed from the recents list, stopped by the battery manager, or loses
  the network while the server keeps working, the next launch finds the
  finished file, pulls it to the phone and cleans it off the server —
  honouring "Wi-Fi only".
• MeTube Lite tells you when your server keeps the files it was told to
  delete. MeTube removes a file only when DELETE_FILE_ON_TRASHCAN=true,
  and without it everything looks right while the disk fills up. Lite now
  checks after a cleanup and says so in the settings until the container is
  fixed.

Fixed

• Audio no longer dies a minute after a phone call. The service used to
  leave the foreground on every pause, and Android 12+ refused to bring it
  back from the background when the call ended. It now stays through a
  pause; a session left paused stops itself after fifteen minutes. Both apps.
• A dropped network is waited for instead of skipped. A stream is
  retried after 2, 5 and 10 seconds before it is given up on; a local file
  that will not open is still skipped at once. Both apps.
• Audio buffers two minutes ahead instead of fifty seconds, riding out a
  lift, a tunnel or a Wi-Fi handover. Both apps.
• MeTube Super: deleting from the server no longer hides your copy on the
  phone. The clip stays in the library as a local item, with its tags,
  position and cover — and deleting that local copy later takes its data
  with it.
• MeTube Lite: one dropped connection no longer loses a download. Lite
  now tolerates a short outage while the server works, and both apps wait
  up to thirty minutes for a long download instead of ten.
• A cover stored as a file shows on the lock screen. Both apps.
• "View all" leaves full screen before opening the playlist, instead of
  opening it over a player still locked sideways. MeTube Super.
• The server's username and password say they are optional under the
  field, not behind the help button. Both apps.
• Backups no longer carry what belongs to one phone — a download in
  progress, or the "server keeps files" flag. Both apps.

Verified on a Galaxy S22 Ultra running Android 16: the call sequence was
captured in the system log before and after, and the kill-mid-download
recovery, the server card and the server-delete behaviour were exercised on
the device.

A fix release for MeTube Lite, and a small one shared with Super. It installs
over 2.0.1 and keeps your settings and library.

Fixed

• MeTube Lite asks for permission to read your downloads. The media
  permissions were declared and never requested, so on a phone that had not
  been asked the library either failed outright
  (PathAccessException ... Permission denied, errno = 13, on a first
  install) or came back empty over files that were plainly there. Lite now
  asks when the first screen appears, the way it asks for notifications, and
  the library itself offers the permission — with the system settings as the
  second step once Android has stopped asking.
• An empty library is no longer the answer to a hidden one. Whether the
  folder can be read is decided by the permission rather than by opening the
  folder, because Android opens the folder either way and hides what is
  inside. Files that do list are shown whatever the permission API reports.
• The startup sweep of leftover partial files no longer throws on a
  folder it may not read. Both apps.

Verified on a Galaxy S22 Ultra running Android 16: refuse, refuse again,
allow — the library returns without restarting the app.

• التطبيق صار يطلب إذن الوصول إلى الوسائط عند أول شاشة. كان الإذن معلناً ولا يُطلب، فتظهر المكتبة إما برسالة خطأ على تثبيت جديد، أو فارغة رغم وجود الملفات.
• المكتبة المخفية لم تعد تظهر كمكتبة فارغة: الحكم الآن لحالة الإذن لا لفتح المجلد، فأندرويد يفتح المجلد ويخفي ما بداخله.

A bug-fix release for both apps. It installs over 2.0.0 and keeps your
settings and library, and a phone already on 2.0.0 is offered it inside the
app.

Fixed

• MeTube Super keeps downloading after you leave the app. Android froze
  Super in the background, so the progress notification stopped where it was
  and the result appeared only when the app was opened again. Super now holds
  the same foreground service as MeTube Lite, and only while a download runs.
• Reels: a finger that slightly misses the progress bar no longer pauses
  the clip. The bar's touch strip is twice as tall.
• The first percent of a download no longer shows as 100%. Both apps.

Changed

• MeTube Super's library stays usable without the server. Videos saved on
  the phone still play, under a banner that names the problem and offers a
  retry.
