Open your Terminal #55
Conversation
'Open your Command line application' could refer to a command line application like, say, grep, or the scss program itself (which is what I thought this meant the first time I read it). Be more specific.
Terminal isn't better. On Windows, there is no such thing. |
OK, will amend with something specific that includes Windows. One moment... |
Command line application is somewhat specific and meant to be system agnostic. The command line application on OSX would be Terminal or iTerm. On Windows you have the Command Prompt. Grep or SCSS, for example aren't command line applications. They are utilities with a CLI. |
@bpainter go you think most developers do not consider grep a command line application? |
I may be being a bit pedantic, but I consider things like grep utilities with a CLI. Maybe a command line interface app? If the terminology changes to be system specific it will just need to take into account the correct naming for Windows, Linux and OSX. |
Acknowledged. The amended commit after has 'Terminal or Command Prompt', which covers OS X, Linux and Windows. I wish there was a generic term for these types of apps too, but alas 'command line application' already means something else to a lot of people. |
/highfive Works for me. Thanks for making the change. |
Sorry for chiming in late on this. But what about "console application"? or just console? |
@jina 'console' is nice and short, but it doesn't tend to be used in the Windows world. Also 'terminal' is more common than 'console' in the Unix world. 'Terminal or Command Prompt' might be slightly longer, but it's specific. |
