MonoSlice 1.4.0
MonoSlice 1.4.0
Added
- Quit and Optimize. When selected apps are running, the confirmation offers to quit them first. Each one is asked to quit (and can still ask to save your work) right before it is optimized; an app that doesn't quit within 20 seconds is skipped.
- Only Updated. A button in the list selects just the apps an update made Universal again.
- Update check. MonoSlice checks GitHub Releases for a newer version every few days and shows a banner with Download and Skip This Version. Turn it off in Settings → Check for updates automatically. This is the only network request MonoSlice makes — see Privacy.
- Remove unused languages (optional, off by default: Settings → Also remove unused languages;
--strip-languagesin the command-line tool). Translations of optimized apps into languages other than English and the ones in System Settings → Language & Region are removed too. See Unused Languages. - Copy Report in the summary copies the results and MonoSlice's log of the run, to attach to a bug report.
Changed
- MonoSlice no longer replaces an app while it, or any of its helpers, is running: it would load re-signed code later and could crash. Such apps are skipped unless you choose Quit and Optimize.
- Optimized apps are checked with the strict signature check (
codesign --strict) whenever the original passes it, which also catches broken links inside the app. Apps that already fail it as shipped are checked as before.
Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Requires macOS 12.0 Monterey or newer.

MonoSlice 1.3.0
Added
- Move originals to the Trash (Settings;
--keep-originalsin the command-line tool). The original of each optimized app goes to the Trash instead of being deleted, so it can be put back. - Never Optimize. A hand button next to each app in the list (or its context menu) excludes it; excluded apps can't be selected. Settings lists them and can add apps that aren't in the list.
- History. Apps that an update made Universal again are marked in the list, and Settings shows how much space MonoSlice has saved.
Changed
- Optimized apps keep the Hardened Runtime and the entitlements an ad-hoc signature can carry (JIT, camera, microphone…). Before, both were removed. Library validation is turned off for re-signed code, because an ad-hoc signature has no developer identity. See Limitations and Risks.
Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Requires macOS 12.0 Monterey or newer.

MonoSlice 1.1.0
Added
- Localized interface: English and Russian.
- Settings → Language. System (the default) follows the language set for MonoSlice in System Settings → General → Language & Region → Applications (on macOS 12 Monterey: System Preferences → Language & Region → Apps), otherwise the macOS language, and falls back to English when that language isn't translated. An explicit choice switches the app right away; menus provided by macOS (Edit, Window, Quit…) follow after MonoSlice is relaunched.

Fixed
- The administrator password is now requested once per run instead of once per app. Apps that need administrator rights are prepared first and installed together in a single step; a failure in one app rolls back only that app.
- Optimizing apps owned by root (for example those installed with a package installer) no longer fails with
Operation not permitted. - Permission errors now start with a hint on how to fix them instead of a long list of file names.
If MonoSlice fails on other vendors' apps, make sure it is enabled in System Settings → Privacy & Security → App Management.
Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Requires macOS 12.0 Monterey or newer.
