• Errors that come before the env files are read hide their values too, as other errors do. A usage error repeated a value in an argument, such as a staged file whose name starts with -, which pre-commit passes and which is read as an option; so did the error for a -C folder that does not exist, and for a GIT_INDEX_FILE that names no file.
