Release list
Journal 0.1.0
Journal 0.1.0 is the first release.
What it is
- A journal that is a folder of Markdown files: one
.mdper entry with YAML frontmatter, photos in a content-addressed folder. Sync it with iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Syncthing or git; open it with any editor. Format: docs/format.md. - Desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux: timeline, editor with autosave, tags, multiple journals, On This Day, full-text search (works for CJK), calendar, dark mode.
- Day One import: Export → JSON in Day One, import the zip. Entries, photos, tags, location, weather and stars come across; re-importing never duplicates.
journalCLI and an MCP server (journal mcp serve, 11 tools) so Claude Code or any MCP client can read and write your journal. Docs: docs/mcp.md.- No account, no server, no telemetry.
Known limitations
- No mobile app yet. Entries written elsewhere show up through folder sync.
- No built-in sync service; it relies on whatever syncs the folder.
- Windows and Linux builds are unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen will warn on first run. The macOS builds are signed and notarized.
- Location on macOS is a city-level guess from the network connection (the webview cannot use the system location service); weather comes from Open-Meteo. One toggle in Settings turns both off.
- No PDF export and no encryption at rest yet.
