How To Fish — VR Mod v1.0.0 (First Public Release Candidate)

First public release candidate of the full 6DOF VR mod for How to Fish, playable in singleplayer and online multiplayer!

What's Included in v1.0.0

  • Full OpenXR 6DOF VR Support — Works with SteamVR, Meta Quest (Link, Air Link, Virtual Desktop), Index, Vive, PICO, and WMR headsets.
  • Multiplayer Compatible — Play freely in lobbies with unmodded flatscreen players, plus automatic two-handed 6DOF hand & finger sync when playing with other VR mod users.
  • Physical Fishing & Boat Controls — Swing your arm to cast, crank the reel by hand (or with Right Trigger), and steer the boat by grabbing the wheel and throttle lever.
  • Manual Weapon Reloading & Physical Melee (inspired by VR shooters like Pavlov VR and H3VR, built from scratch) — Eject mags, grab fresh magazines / shotgun shells / speedloaders from your chest/hip pouch, and physically rack slides, bolts, charging handles, or shotgun pumps. Knives and bare-handed punches use real arm swings in Manual mode, or you can switch to Automatic mode anytime on your Wrist Menu.
  • Left-Wrist Menu & Calm Main Menu — Turn your left wrist toward your face (in the Main Menu or in-game) to bring up quick VR controls.
  • Desktop Spectator HUD (inspired by Half-Life: Alyx's spectator overlay, with a custom gaze-fade twist) — Clean static 2D HUD on the desktop mirror for streaming/Discord screensharing that smoothly fades out whenever you look directly at your in-game 3D UI and fades back in when you look away.

How to Install (Pick Whichever You Prefer)

Option A: One-Click Script (Install-HowToFishVR.bat)

  1. Download HowToFish-VRMod-v1.0.0.zip below and Extract All... into a normal folder.
  2. Double-click Install-HowToFishVR.bat — it finds your How to Fish Steam folder automatically and copies the mod files over.
  3. Start SteamVR / Quest Link / Virtual Desktop and launch How to Fish on Steam!

Option B: Manual Drag-and-Drop (No Scripts Needed)

If you'd rather not run .bat scripts, you can install manually in ~20 seconds:

  1. In Steam, right-click How to Fish -> Manage -> Browse local files, then open the inner How to Fish folder (where How to Fish.exe lives).
  2. Open HowToFish-VRMod-v1.0.0.zip and drag only BepInEx, doorstop_config.ini, and winhttp.dll right next to How to Fish.exe (you can ignore or delete Install-HowToFishVR.bat).
  3. Start your VR runtime and launch How to Fish!
