@solleo95 solleo95 released this 01 Nov 14:36

Fix: the game no longer closes on its own in some scenes, and the Wii Remote aims up and down the right way.

  • The game could close with an error message in some scenes. It was reported during the Tyrant fight. The game now handles an empty drawing step correctly and keeps running.
  • Wii Remote with a sensor bar: moving the remote up moved the crosshair down, and the other way round. Now the crosshair follows the remote up and down as it should. Left and right were already correct.

Known limits

  • The Wii Remote fix was made from a player's report and has not been tried on a real remote yet. If up and down are still wrong for you, please tell us which sensor bar you use.
  • The closing error had one known cause, and that one is fixed. If the game still closes for you, please send the "logs" folder from the game folder.

New: Better aiming with a light gun, a Wii Remote and the mouse, a speed-up key you can change, and co-op that no longer stops by mistake.

  • The aiming cursor now stops exactly at the edge of the screen. With a light gun or a Wii Remote the cursor now sits right where you point. With a mouse you no longer lose aim when you push past the edge and have to move back.
  • The reload zone at the edge or corner of the screen now matches the real edge of the screen.
  • You can hold a key to run the game 8 times faster. It is in the list of keyboard controls, both in the launcher and in the in-game menu. By default it is the ` key (the one above Tab). You can pick another key, or clear it if you do not want a speed key.
  • When you try to give a key that is already used (the menu key, the speed-up key, or a key of another action), a message box now opens and tells you what to change first. Press Close or Escape to go on.

Fixes

  • Co-op: the game no longer ends with "Network desync" when the two PCs differ for just one moment. It now stops only if the difference stays.
  • Wide screens: the item name, the button picture and the text of a pickup tip now move together and no longer jump around.
  • Wide screens: the first-aid spray icon at the bottom left no longer slides when you move the cursor near it.
  • The glow around the cursor over an item no longer pulls the nearby text with it.
  • The small button picture in an item tip no longer follows the cursor.

Known limits

  • Light gun and Wii Remote aiming is only tested with simulated input, not with real devices.
  • The real cause of the one-moment difference in co-op is not found yet. The game now just ignores it when it happens once.

Fix: the boss health bar on ultrawide screens

Fixes

  • On ultrawide screens the boss health bar no longer falls apart. Before, the bar and its dark background stopped short of the ends, and the left part (the ENEMY label and the end caps) did not line up with it. Now the whole bar shrinks together and stays in one piece.
  • The bar also keeps its place when the window is taller than 16:9.

New: Light gun and Wii Remote support

  • Light guns. A new "Pointing device" setting lets you choose "Light gun". The game then follows the exact spot where the gun points, so Sinden, GUN4IR, Retro Shooter Reaper and a Mayflash DolphinBar in a mouse mode all work. The mouse cursor is hidden and kept inside the window. A smoothing slider calms a shaky gun.
  • Reload zone for light guns that cannot shoot off the screen. Shooting a chosen corner or edge of the screen reloads. It is off by default and its size can be changed.
  • Wii Remote support. Connect it over Bluetooth, or through a DolphinBar in mode 4. You can aim with the pointer, use the Nunchuk stick for the camera, swing the remote for the knife and shake it for shake scenes. It has its own button settings on the Controllers page and its own button pictures in the game prompts. The game does not freeze if the remote is unplugged or falls asleep, and the launcher lets go of the remote when the game starts.
  • New guides for light guns and the Wii Remote: how to switch the pointing device, how to pair the remote, the default buttons and what to do when something does not work. They are in the README and in a separate page, in English and Russian.
  • The launcher's Controls and Controllers pages now scroll as a whole with a slim scrollbar, like the Graphics page. Lists, hints and sliders look the same in the launcher and in the game menu, and hints stay next to the cursor at any window size.
  • The launcher window shows its background straight away, with no black flash at start.

Fixes

  • Game Over screen: Yes and No now light up when you point at them. Before, the reticle showed twice as far from the centre as your pointer.
  • The reticle no longer jumps out of the window near the top and bottom edges.
  • The first aid spray icon no longer moves with the reticle.
  • Ultrawide: in menus the mouse now follows the whole window and highlights the right button. Blood on the screen edges is drawn as one picture again.

Known limits

  • Light guns and the Wii Remote were tested only with simulated input, not with real devices. Please tell us if your gun or remote does not behave.

New: native ultrawide, a reticle menu and a choice of menu key

  • Wide screens now show a real wide picture. On 21:9, 32:9 and other screens wider than 16:9, you see more of the world instead of a stretched image. Your aim, the pickups and the hit detection cover the whole screen. Menus, text and button hints keep their normal shape. Movies stay 16:9 and the Nintendo and CAPCOM screens stay 4:3. Taller windows (4:3, 16:10) work too.
  • New "HUD position" choice in the launcher (display page) and in the game menu: Automatic, Centre (16:9) or Screen edges. Automatic puts the health, ammo and weapon panel at the screen edges on screens up to about 21:9, and in the middle on wider screens.
  • New "Reticle" tab in the game menu (Insert). You can hide the aim trail, the laser dot, the white marks and the green ammo arc, pick a colour for each player, change the size of the laser dot and the length of the trail, and make your partner's reticle more see-through. A preview shows the result and the changes apply at once.
  • The key that opens the game menu can now be changed. It is Insert by default. Set it on the Controls tab, under "Settings menu". The launcher will not accept Escape, P, Tab or a key that already does something else.

Known limits

  • In online co-op and in recorded demos the picture stays 16:9 and is stretched on wide screens. This keeps all players in sync.
  • On very wide screens something at the far sides may show up a little late.
  • The glow of the title logo and full-width backgrounds stay stretched on wide screens.

New: Gamepad support, plus a mouse sensitivity setting.

  • Any common gamepad now works: Xbox, PlayStation (DualShock 4 and DualSense), Nintendo Switch Pro and most others. Just plug it in.
  • The left stick moves your aim. The right stick moves the camera, like the stick on the Wii Nunchuk, so a gentle push turns slowly and a full push turns fast.
  • If your gamepad has motion controls (PlayStation and Switch pads do), you can aim by tilting it. Swing the pad to use the knife and shake it to break free. This is off by default; turn it on in the new Gamepad window.
  • Right trigger fires, A interacts, X reloads, B uses the knife, Y throws a grenade, Start pauses, and clicking the left stick puts your aim back in the middle. Every button can be changed.
  • There is a new "Controllers" tab, in the launcher and in the game menu (Insert). Press the "Gamepad" button there to change sticks, dead zones, motion aiming and buttons. The Controls tab is still only for keyboard and mouse.
  • On-screen button hints now show your controller: green A and red B for Xbox, cross and circle for PlayStation, and so on. By default they switch between keyboard and gamepad by themselves, depending on what you used last. You can also pick one yourself.
  • Mouse sensitivity: a new slider (10-300%) at the top of the Controls tab in the launcher and in the game menu. Shaking the mouse and swiping keep working the same way.

Fixes

  • Updating from the launcher is faster and no longer fails when the launcher takes too long to close.
  • The launcher's settings list now has the same slim scrollbar as the other column.

Known limits

  • Many gamepads made for Xbox (for example the GameSir G7 Pro in Xbox mode) do not share their motion sensor with Windows, so motion aiming will not work with them. Use the stick, or switch the pad to a PlayStation or Switch mode if it has one.
  • Gamepads cannot be used to interact with the launcher.
  • Gamepad support was tested with virtual gamepads and the automatic tests. Please tell if a particular model does not work for you.

Fix: the launcher unpacks more disc images and no longer shows empty windows, and the mouse works in the boss dodge prompt.

  • The launcher unpacks disc images that contain a single partition (for example a trimmed .wbfs dump). Before, the unpack finished and then failed with no result, because the game files were not found afterwards.
  • The Multiplayer and Unpacking windows (and every other launcher window) no longer turn blank at display scales above 100%, for example 150% on a 1080p screen. They used to lose their title, text and buttons after the launcher had been open for a while.
  • The game settings menu (Insert) uses the same fix.
  • The mouse shake in the boss dodge prompt now counts (for example the scorpion at the end of the train chapter). Before, only the shake prompts of zombie grabs worked and the boss prompt ignored the mouse.

Fixes

  • Unpacking a single-partition disc image no longer ends with an empty window and no message.
  • The Unpacking window no longer shows a stray scrollbar.

Fix: heavy scenes no longer drop to about 10 FPS

  • In some heavy scenes (for example chapter 2, rooms r029-r031a) the game could fall to about 10 FPS for several seconds, and in some rooms for minutes. This is fixed.

Known limits

  • The game can use up to 1 GiB more RAM in heavy scenes.
  • If you still see such drops, send the log from the logs folder.

New: translations can rename the characters

  • Mods can now rename the eight short character names that the game keeps inside main.dol (Ada, Billy, Carlos, Chris, HUNK, Jill, Rebecca, Wesker) with a new dol/names.json file. The text is UTF-8, up to 15 bytes (7 Cyrillic letters), so a full translation now works on the plain English game with no edited main.dol.
  • The new names appear when the next chapter starts. Switching the mod off brings the original names back.
  • An optional dol/charmap.json lets a mod with its own font map letters to the codes that font uses.
  • Mod scripts get a new hookable function, StringCopy (the game's own strcpy). Every string copy in the game passes through it, so keep callbacks short.
  • The modding guide (English and Russian) describes the new files.

Fixes

  • A mod id with capital letters (for example "FFRU") no longer fails with "id is not allowed" and loads normally. The id is stored in lower case ("ffru") in the config, the log, the cache and "depends".

Known limits

  • Names are limited to 15 bytes. Longer names belong in the text file (mes_us, for example record 252 "Chris Redfield").
  • The new names are used when a chapter starts, not in the middle of one.
  • Only the NTSC-U image's name table was checked.

New: logs now explain FPS drops

  • With "Enable logs" on, every frame that takes much longer than usual gets a "[hitch]" line in runtime.log. It names the biggest cause (GPU, game CPU, waiting on the disc, waiting for the display, driver submit, render thread) with the time of each part, and ends with the stage script, room and movie the game was loading or playing. If you report a drop, tell us roughly how many minutes after the start it happened and attach the log folder.
  • Once a second the log now also records process and system memory, CPU load, and video memory against the budget Windows gives the game ("[process]", "[memory]", "[vram]").
  • The system report at the top of the log now includes the CPU, RAM, power plan (and whether the PC runs on battery) and the display resolution and refresh rate.
  • On DirectX 11 and 12 the log shows shader and pipeline compiles ("[pipeline]" lines), as it already did on Vulkan.
  • The folder also holds frames.csv, one row per frame. It grows by roughly 50 MB per hour at 60 FPS (about 4x that at 240 FPS), so turn the logs off when you are not chasing a problem.

Fixes

  • The updater no longer stops when a file that the new release ships was edited, copied by hand or left over from another build (for example a modified uc_updater.exe). The old file is backed up and replaced, and a rollback restores it.
  • The updater now takes its helper from the verified download instead of the installed copy, so a damaged or altered installed helper cannot block an update.
  • The launcher log lists the UI fonts it found and any characters those fonts cannot draw, to track down reports of empty launcher menu items.

Known limits

  • The launcher log starts with the next launch after you turn "Enable logs" on.
  • Logs are off by default in a release client; nothing is written unless you tick "Enable logs".
