Easy Screen Recorder 0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@solucionesconscientes solucionesconscientes released this 16 Sep 13:02

First development release. Records screen and audio on Linux, on Wayland and
X11, with region selection, audio-only mode, pause and resume, a global
shortcut and an environment check.

Install

Flatpak — recommended

flatpak install --user https://flatpak.solucionesconscientes.es/es.solucionesconscientes.EasyScreenRecorder.flatpakref

Updates arrive with flatpak update, from a signed repository. Use this and not
the .flatpak file below unless you have a reason to prefer a single file.

Debian and Ubuntu

easy-screen-recorder_0.1.0-1_amd64.deb, installed with sudo dpkg -i or by
double-clicking it.

One limitation worth reading before you download it. The package was built
on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS against Qt 6.10.2, and it depends on that exact version
(qt6-declarative-private-abi (= 6.10.2)). It will refuse to install on any
release that ships a different Qt. That is not a packaging mistake: the app uses
a Qt private ABI, which is versioned strictly on purpose. On any other
distribution, use the Flatpak.

easy-screen-recorder-dbgsym_0.1.0-1_amd64.ddeb is only the debug symbols. You
need it to file a useful crash report and for nothing else.

It needs gpu-screen-recorder on the host

The capture itself is done by
gpu-screen-recorder,
which is not bundled. Easy Screen Recorder drives it as a separate process and
never links against it.

Install it system-wide, not with --user. A --user install is not
reachable from inside the Flatpak sandbox, and that is the first thing that goes
wrong for people trying this.

To see whether everything is in place:

easy-screen-recorder-cli --check

What it does

  • Records any monitor, a region you drag, the focused window or a camera, with
the encoding done on the GPU.
  • Audio-only mode, to Opus, AAC, FLAC, WAV or MP3, without turning on video
    capture at all.
  • Pause and resume mid-recording, and a global shortcut to start and stop.
  • Picks the audio device for you — system audio, microphone, or several tracks
    at once.
  • Tells you what is missing before you press record, instead of failing halfway
    through.
  • Interface in English and Spanish, chosen from the system language.

Developed and tested on a 2015 laptop with integrated graphics, which is the
point: the encoding is on the GPU, so the CPU stays free.

What it does not do yet

Said here rather than discovered after installing:

  • Screen and webcam in the same recording is not implemented. You can record
a camera as the only source. The overlay is designed and measured in
docs/ROADMAP.md, including the finding that overlay_vaapi does not work on
this hardware, so composition costs CPU.
  • The command-line help is in Spanish. The graphical interface is
translated; easy-screen-recorder-cli and the library's error messages are
    not yet. Tracked in docs/ROADMAP.md.
  • The global shortcut and the tray icon are native on KDE Plasma. On other
desktops everything else works the same.
  • This is a 0.1.0 marked as a development release. It has been used for real
recordings, not audited by anyone else.

License

GPL-3.0-or-later. The repository is REUSE-compliant; see docs/LICENSING.md for
why that licence and how the dual-licensing model works.

En español

Primera versión de desarrollo. Graba pantalla y audio en Linux, sobre Wayland y
X11, con selector de región, modo de solo audio, pausa y reanudación, atajo
global y comprobación del entorno.

Instalación recomendada, con actualizaciones:

flatpak install --user https://flatpak.solucionesconscientes.es/es.solucionesconscientes.EasyScreenRecorder.flatpakref
