EvenUI 1.6.0
Interaction states
- Every scan now checks how controls look hovered, focused from the keyboard, pressed and disabled, in a new States category with its own score.
- It finds controls with no visible focus (or one that's hard to see), focus and hover that differ within a component, a one-off focus style, hovers and presses that change a control's size so the layout jumps, state colours that are almost the page's own, and disabled controls that look enabled or are styled differently.
- Each issue shows the control at rest beside it in the state, with the rule that styles the state (file and line) and the fix, usually the focus style the rest of the page already uses.
- States are forced the way DevTools does it, so menus stay shut and nothing moves. Before a control is reported as having no focus, it's focused for real from the keyboard, so a focus ring a script draws still counts.
- Comparisons with scans from before this version leave state issues out of "new".
Watching sites
- Watch a site and it's audited again every day or week, at a time you choose. Each run is compared with the one before: new issues, fixed ones, issues spreading to more pages, and the pages whose score moved.
- An issue only counts as new or fixed on pages both runs scanned, so a page that failed to load isn't "fixed".
- A notification says when something got worse (or after every run, or never: Settings → Watching).
- Watching in the sidebar lists every watch with its trend. Each one shows its latest digest, its score over time and every run. Sites shows a watch's latest run.
- Watch a site from its audit, or from Watching. Watching sites is part of Pro.
- Watches run while the app is open, and catch up once when it opens. Turn on Open at login in Settings to keep them on schedule, or run them from cron with
evenui watch run --due. - The newest 8 runs keep their audits; older ones keep their scores for the trend.
Fixes
- From now on, updating works even when the app was opened straight from Downloads: the update installs into your Applications folder, and the app says so when it opens.
- When an update can't install, the reason is shown, not just that it failed.
- A network that answers an update check with something unexpected (a proxy, a captive portal, a dropped connection) no longer brings up a "JavaScript error" window. The check fails quietly and tries again later.
Checksums
SHA-256 of each download. To check one: shasum -a 256 <file> on a Mac, Get-FileHash <file> in PowerShell.

EvenUI 1.5.0
Stress tests
- A new Stress test tab on every scan swaps the page's data for the worst real cases (the longest names and emails, big counts and amounts, buttons, tabs and badges in German, photos that aren't square or fail to load), then shows every place the page breaks.
- Each break is marked Broken, Ugly or Fragile, with before and after crops, the CSS that fixes it, and the rule to put it in. Switch between Demo data and Worst case to see the difference.
- It also lists what held up, and it's kept apart from the score.
- Start one from the Stress test tab, from Options in the scan box, with
--stressin the CLI, or ask Claude Code to stress test a page. Stress tests are part of Pro. - It runs again at 320px wide and with text at 200%, and lists what breaks there and not at the page's own size. Right to left and dark mode are in Settings → Stress tests.
- A count of "1 members" is flagged, and counts like "12 members" get a note to check the singular.
- Breaks can be marked as intentional, on the page, across the site or everywhere.
- Shareable reports include the stress test, and a site audit can stress test every page, with the breaks pages share grouped together.
EvenUI 1.4.1
Fixes
- The Mac app opens after you download it from the website or GitHub, instead of macOS saying it's damaged. The first time, macOS asks you to allow it: open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
EvenUI 1.4.0
Fixes
- On Windows, the app's icon shows in the taskbar, on the desktop and in the Start menu. Before, the small sizes Windows uses there were blank.
Good to know
- macOS may ask once more whether EvenUI can send notifications.
EvenUI 1.3.0
Spelling
- Scans check the spelling of everything a page shows, in its language: British or American English, from the page's
lang, or either when it isn't set. Each misspelling is pinned to the page with corrections. - American spelling on a British page (and the other way round) is flagged, and so is a page that mixes the two.
- Names, acronyms, brands, code, URLs and common product words like "onboarding" are left alone. To add a word, mark it as intentional, or add it to a design system's new Words list.
- Spelling has its own category, score and filter, in site audits, reports, the CLI and Claude Code too. Comparing with a scan from before spelling leaves it out, so the change stays fair.
Fixes
- On a Mac updated from UIScanner, the app now renames itself to EvenUI the first time it quits, even with Claude Code sessions open. Finder, the Dock and Spotlight show EvenUI; sessions started earlier keep working until they're restarted.
EvenUI 1.2.3
Fixes
- A deleted design system, scan or site audit no longer comes back into the list once the Undo window closes.
- Clicking anywhere on the design system picker in the scan box opens it, chevron included.
- A design system's colours are grouped into the families their token names describe – gray, blue, brand – with numbered steps in order, as they are when importing from a repository.
EvenUI 1.2.2
A clearer icon
- The icon's grid is bolder, so it shows in the Dock instead of fading to plain green.
EvenUI 1.2.1
A new icon
- EvenUI's icon now sits on a green cutting mat, with a fine grid and a gold line every fifth square.
EvenUI 1.2.0
UIScanner is now EvenUI
- The app has a new name. Updating keeps everything: your scans, design systems, settings, licence and trial, and the sites you're signed in to in the live view.
- Claude Code now lists the tools as EvenUI's. Open a new session to use them; sessions already open keep working until you restart them.
- Links, commands and settings made with the old name still work:
uiscanner://links, theuiscannercommand,uiscanner.config.jsonanddata-uiscanner-ignore.
Clear about design systems
- A scan or site audit checked against a design system says so: "Checked against Halcyon" in the title bar and under the score, with one click to run it again without it. One checked against its own patterns doesn't mention a design system.
- The scan box shows which design system a scan will check against, and clears it in one click.
- A new design system only becomes the default for new scans if you tick the box.
UIScanner 1.1.0
Overlays, sticky bars and full-screen effects
- A modal, drawer or consent wall that's open when the page is scanned gets its own frame below the page, shown over the first screen as visitors see it – it no longer hides the top of the page.
- Cookie bars and chat buttons pinned to the bottom of the window sit at the end of the page instead of over its content.
- Vignettes, textures and fades fixed to the window are left out, so they no longer leave a band across the first screen.
- Pages that keep loading as they're scrolled are measured once they've stopped growing, so outlines line up all the way down.
Find where a value is used
- Click any value in the design inventory – a spacing, colour, size, line-height, radius, border or shadow – to outline every element that uses it on the page, with the property it's used in.
- Spacing is drawn at its real size, and each value says which properties use it.
- Text styles show two lines with their line boxes ruled, and keep their line-height in proportion when a large size is shown smaller.
Line-heights
- New checks for line-heights a pixel off a common one, one-off line-heights, body copy set on tight lines, body copy left at
line-height: normal, and text set with too many line-height ratios. The same ratio on different sizes counts as consistent. - Line-heights have their own row in the inventory.
Issues panel
- The issues panel is set out like the inspector: a header, then the score, the severity and category filters, and the list, each in its own section.
