Add possibility to overwrite existing branch when checkouting

Other VCS utilities (like the one in PyCharm for example) have the possibility to overwrite existing branch when checkouting.

However, it is not currently possible in SouceGit.

Would it be possible to add this feature?

Sure, but it is 2 operations instead on 1 😅

1. Checkout branch
2. Reset hard

The feature also exists in git command line: git checkout -B ... instead of git checkout -b ... so it would just require an additional option in the "Create Local Branch" popup to be able to switch between -B or -b

Yes, but since OP wants to checkout the branch as well, it would still be 2 operations. So git checkout -B would be quicker and simpler... 😉

-b <new-branch>
Create a new branch named <new-branch>, start it at , and check the resulting branch out.

-B <new-branch>
Creates the branch <new-branch>, start it at <start-point>; if it already exists, then reset it to . And then check the resulting branch out. This is equivalent to running "git branch" with "-f" followed by "git checkout" of that branch.

Unfortunately, I cannot get it working ☹️ As you can see, the option "reset" is not available in the dropdown
