English

  • Select several areas: hold Shift while dragging a rectangle, drawing a lasso or picking by colour, and the new area is added to the selection. Hold Ctrl to subtract it instead, for example to cut holes. The “New”, “+” and “−” buttons in the toolbar do the same. Works just like on the web.
  • Tiled mode for seamless patterns: in the settings (Ctrl+,) under “View” → “Tiled mode”, your picture is shown again next to itself, all around, side by side only or stacked only. Painting over the edge continues on the other side. You can also paint directly on the copies, so you see right away whether the edges match.
  • Replace colour: in the “Finishing” panel, pick the old colour under “From” and the new one under “To”. “Replace” swaps it everywhere, in this picture, on the layer in all frames or in the whole sprite. With a selection only inside it; locked layers stay as they are.
  • Non-contiguous fill: switch off “Contiguous” for the fill bucket and one click recolours every spot with that colour in the picture, even separate areas.
  • Custom brushes: select something and press Ctrl+B (or “As brush” in the selection bar). Pencil, brush and eraser then place exactly this shape, in its own colours or in one colour with “Current colour”. The cursor shows the stamp beforehand. Ctrl+B without a selection or × brings back the normal brush. “Save” keeps a brush: under “Saved brushes” it is then ready in every project and every sprite, even with a different palette.
  • Palettes as files: in the palette panel, “Load …” reads palettes from .gpl (GIMP, Aseprite), .hex (Lospec), .pal, .txt (Paint.NET) or an image such as the Lospec PNG. Colour names from .gpl come along. “Save …” writes the shown palette as .gpl, .hex, .pal or PNG.
  • Shading with a one-sided gradient: next to “Gradient” you choose where the brush is strongest: in the middle as before, or at the top, bottom, left or right, fading towards the opposite side. Handy for light and shadow from one side.
  • Settings in one place: “Edit” → “Settings …” (Ctrl+,) gathers language, pixel grid, tiled mode, brush shape and your saved brushes, which you can also delete there. Pixel grid, tiled mode and language moved there from the “View” menu; the brush shape is still in the toolbar too.
