Open Nectar 1.1.1 - Switch controls, mouse menus and a faster renderer
Open Nectar 1.1.1 — Switch controls, mouse menus and a faster renderer
Play with the Pikmin on Switch control layout, aim the cursor with the right
stick, click your way through every Pikmin 1 menu, and get a noticeably
lighter renderer in both games. Plus Pikmin 2 randomizer and controller
fixes. Saves, settings, texture packs and maps carry over.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. On Android, install the new
APK over the old one. Do not uninstall first, or your data is lost.
New: Switch controller layout (both games)
F1 > Controls > Controller Layout now offers GameCube or Switch.
Switch follows Pikmin 1 + 2 on Switch:
- Right stick turns the camera (no Free Camera needed); flick it up or down
to change the camera height. - L + right stick swarms, ZL faces forward, ZR zooms, right-stick click lies
down. - Pikmin 2: Y switches captain, R changes Pikmin type.
Pikmin 1: R changes colour, Y is Bomb Control. - With the Lock-On or Charge mods, ZL also locks on and the swarm button
charges.
Buttons you reassigned yourself always win.
New: controller options
- Controller Guide page in F1 > Controls: every controller action,
grouped by topic, built live from your layout, bindings and mods. - Right Stick Aim (Off / Hold button / Always) moves the cursor with the
right stick, with its own sensitivity setting. - New bindable actions: Swarm with right stick (hold), Lie down and
Aim cursor with right stick (hold). - Any controller binding can now be set to None (Delete clears it).
- While a controller is connected, the game uses Classic controls (the
cursor follows the stick). Unplug it and your saved control scheme comes
back.
New: Free Camera "Face Forward Aims At" (both games)
In F1 > Camera, with Free Camera on: Captain (as before) or Cursor,
so L turns the camera towards the cursor like the original game.
New: mouse in Pikmin 1 menus
The title screen, main menu, save cards, Options, pause, world map,
challenge courses, VS lobby and rules, and Yes/No dialogs all take mouse
clicks, with a hand cursor over anything clickable. Right click backs out
wherever B does, and on-screen button prompts can be clicked. The pointer
is only captured during a level in Mouse Cursor mode.
Touch (Android)
- New Swarm button (tap to swarm towards the cursor, drag to steer) and
Lie down button.
Performance
- Much less work per frame on the GPU driver in both games (each shader
keeps its own uniform cache). Pikmin 1 spent about a third of its frame
time here. - New 3D Resolution option Original (GameCube, 480p), now the default.
Higher resolutions are still available in F1 > Graphics. - Windows: memory checks are cached, removing thousands of system calls per
frame. Linux and Android read them faster too. - Pikmin 2: removed leftover debug readbacks that stalled the GPU on the
cave map screen (#200). - Lighter audio volume ramps.
Fixes
- Pikmin 2 randomizer: a Volatile Dweevil killed while it was holding
its bomb now drops the treasure it was given (#220). - Pikmin 2 randomizer: a sublevel with a randomized boss keeps its cave
music and no longer gives the boss away (#219). - Pikmin 2: fast mouse clicks now throw (#165).
- Pikmin 2: controllers SDL can't map are now logged, to help with
controllers that aren't detected (#213). - Pikmin 1: sprouts land like on GameCube again at 30 FPS, including
on steep walls. - Pikmin 1 local co-op: Pikmin and captain head turns no longer run
twice per tick in split screen. - Pikmin 1: captain preview cards no longer animate too fast.
Open Nectar 1.1 — Your saves, your folder
Open Nectar 1.1 — Your saves, your folder
Import your Dolphin and GameCube saves from the launcher, keep all your
Android data in a folder you can open, and play Pikmin 2 co-op without the
new-Pikmin crash. Also: PS4 controllers on Android, Pikmin sounds back in
Pikmin 2, and a redesigned launcher. Saves, settings, texture packs and maps
carry over.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. On Android, install the new
APK over the old one. Do not uninstall first, or your data is lost.
New: import saves (launcher)
A new Saves page in the launcher's Settings.
- Import a save from Dolphin or a real GameCube memory card (
.gci
export), or an Open Nectar save file from another install. The launcher
checks that it belongs to the right game and region, and tells you
clearly when it doesn't. - Your current save is backed up first, to a
card0-backupsfolder
(the newest 5 are kept). Open backups folder takes you there. If
anything goes wrong during the import, your old save stays as it was.
New: Android data folder
Everything Open Nectar keeps on your phone (installed games, saves,
settings, texture packs, HD models and maps) now lives in a normal folder
on your device storage: Internal storage/OpenNectar by default. You can
open it with any file manager to copy saves or add mods.
- The first time you open 1.1, the app asks for permission to access
all files. The games need it to open their files. Then it asks which
folder to use. - Everything from your previous version is moved there automatically.
If the move is interrupted, it picks up where it left off next time.
Nothing is overwritten. - Change folder (bottom right of the launcher) moves everything to
another folder at any time, including the SD card.
Fixes
- Pikmin 2 co-op: crash when Louie found blue or yellow Pikmin (#188).
When player 2 (Louie) whistled new Pikmin for the first time, the
cutscene didn't play and the game crashed. The cutscene now plays with
Louie in it. - Pikmin 2: Pikmin and enemy sounds missing (#135). If the opening
cutscene ended before its first text box (skipped, or with auto-advancing
text), Pikmin and enemy sounds stayed muted for the rest of the session. - Android: PS4 controllers only half worked (#177). Only X, Circle,
Options and Share worked, and they couldn't be remapped. Sticks, D-pad,
triggers, Square and Triangle now work too, and so does remapping, in
both games. - Menus behave the same everywhere. Enter, Space and left click
accept. Escape, Backspace and right click cancel. Arrow keys and WASD
both move the cursor. Shift no longer cancels in menus. New configs use
Left Ctrl for the GameCube B button. - Touch screens: a tap in a menu is no longer also read as a mouse
click. - Saves are written safely in both games: a crash or power cut while
saving can no longer leave a half-written memory card. - More stable rendering and video in Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2: damaged or
unusual game data no longer crashes the graphics, cutscene video or music
streams.
Launcher
- New buttons: every button shares one glass "dewdrop" look, with
smooth hover, press and select animations and consistent sizes (#38). - Settings stay in the game folder. An installed game keeps the
launcher's settings and cache in its ownconfigandcachefolders, so
copying the folder takes everything with it. Turn this off in
Settings > Launcher > Keep settings in the game folder. - Portable mode: put an empty
portable.txtnext to the launcher and
it writes nothing outside its folder. Handy on a USB drive. - Pikmin 2 (USA): skip the Health & Safety screen. It's off by
default. Turn it on in Gameplay > Startup (F1 menu or launcher
settings).
Map editor
- Import COLLADA (
.dae) models, as well as.obj.
Thanks
Thanks to Kyle Nakamura (@knakamura13) for the save import, portable
mode, menu controls and macOS work in this release. Thanks also to everyone
who reported issues.
Open Nectar 1.0.9.1 — Windows ONLY antivirus fix
Open Nectar 1.0.9.1 — Windows antivirus fix
Windows only.
Linux, macOS and Android stay on
1.0.9.
Download those from there. Nothing changes in the games themselves.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. Saves, settings and texture
packs carry over.
Windows Defender flagged the launcher as a trojan
Some players got a "Threat found" warning from Windows Defender for
nectar-launcher.exe (Trojan:Win32/Bearfoos.A!ml). This was a false
positive. The !ml means it came from Defender's machine-learning guess,
not from a real malware match.
The launcher was doing things that look suspicious to an antivirus: it
started curl.exe and tar.exe in the background to download updates and
texture packs, and the exe had no publisher or version info. This release
changes that:
- Downloads now happen inside the launcher instead of through
curl.exe. - Update zips are unpacked inside the launcher instead of through
tar.exe. nectar.exe,nectar-pal.exeandnectar-launcher.exenow have
publisher and version information (right-click → Properties → Details).
If Defender still blocks it: open Windows Security → Protection history,
select the detection and choose Allow on device. Only do this with files
downloaded from this releases page.
Open Nectar 1.0.9 - Campaign Creator, Model Maker Tool, Crash fixes
Open Nectar 1.0.9
The creators' update: make your own captains and Pikmin from any 3D model,
build missions and campaigns in the map editor, and a tidier title menu.
Plus Pikmin 2 crash fixes. Saves, settings, texture packs and maps carry
over.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. On Android, install the new
APK over the old one.
New: Model Maker (Pikmin 1)
A new Model maker button in the launcher, next to the map editor.
- Open a 3D model (
.glb,.gltf,.vrmfrom VRoid,.fbxfrom
Mixamo, or.obj), or drop it on the window. It is sized and placed on
the character's skeleton by itself, and very detailed models (AI-made or
scanned) are simplified automatically without breaking their textures. - Skeletons are recognised (Mixamo, VRoid, Blender, MMD); models without
one get automatic weights. Draggable dots for shoulders, hands, hips, feet
and neck let you fix anything, and the arms swing from the character's own
shoulders, so tall characters do not tear. - Preview with the game's real animations (walk, throw, whistle, pluck,
hurt...) next to the original, and a traffic light that says what to fix. - Custom captains get their own slot in the captain selector, with
their name and portrait (also in the HUD). Olimar is never replaced. You
can add new slots, replace one of your own or remove it. - Custom Pikmin replace the red, yellow or blue Pikmin, or all three at
once (one model tinted by the game). The leaf, bud and flower stay the
game's, on the tip of the model's stem. Pick them per colour in
Options > Graphics > Pikmin Models or in the launcher's
Settings > HD Models. - Share them as a
.nectarcharfile. Install one with the new
Characters button in the launcher. Creations keep their original model
and settings, so Open one you made reopens them to touch them up, and
shared files can be edited by whoever receives them.
Captain selector
- More than five custom captains are paged: change page with Q/E,
LB/RB, or the arrows beside the row on touch screens (up to 45).
Map editor: missions and campaigns
- Missions for one player or co-op, with story, rules, medals, triggers
and multi-day state, in a new Custom Maps menu with its own HUD and end
screen. - Campaigns in
.nectarpackpacks: a world map of zones, unlock rules,
3 save slots, diary and endings, with a campaign editor. - Higher limits, the game's own generators (plants, grass, bomb rocks,
gates, enemy groups) as placeable objects, OBJ meshes, cut-outs of the
game's levels, cliffs, paths and rivers, and rebuilt templates.
Pikmin 1: title menu
- The title menu no longer overlaps. It is back to five options: Start,
Play Together (Co-op, VS), Extra Modes (Challenge Mode, Speedrun,
Randomizer, Custom Maps), Options and Exit.
Open Nectar 1.0.8 - VSync, controller and crash fixes
Open Nectar 1.0.8
Fixes for display, controllers, crashes and Pikmin 2 sound reported since
1.0.7. Saves, settings and texture packs carry over.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. On Android, install the new
APK over the old one.
Pikmin 1: display (Windows)
- VSync now really stops screen tearing (#144). With Frame Sync (VSync)
On, the 30 FPS and 60 FPS modes only limited the frame rate with a timer
and never waited for the monitor, so the picture tore. They now wait for
the screen's refresh like the Monitor FPS mode. - Fixed a thin coloured line at the bottom of the screen (#144) at
resolutions where the GameCube picture does not scale by a whole number
(for example 1920×1200). Some screen areas were rounded to one pixel short.
Both games
- Exit option in the title menu. Both games can now be closed to the
desktop from the main menu, without Alt+F4. - Remapped triggers no longer press both L and R when they were swapped
or assigned to another action. - Android: the controller you press first becomes Player 1. Some phones
list a virtual device before the real controller, which then did nothing.
Pikmin 1: fixes
- Skipping an Onion discovery scene no longer leaves the Onion without its
first seed. - The launcher checks that the game files needed at start-up are all present
and offers to repair an incomplete installation, instead of the game
stopping with an error (#151).
Pikmin 2: crashes
- Fixed a crash when breaking the last segment of a gate (#153).
- Fixed a crash when changing area with frame interpolation on (#150).
- Android crash reports can now name where the game stopped even when the
call stack cannot be read.
Pikmin 2: sound
- Fixed silent sound effects stored in the GameCube's 2-bit audio format.
- Sound works on Windows devices that only accept 48 kHz, and comes back
after a headset or audio device is unplugged instead of staying silent. - Loud scenes with many effects no longer distort.
- The Mono sound option is remembered instead of returning to Stereo on
every launch.
Pikmin 2: other fixes
- Fixed stale screen captures and missing cut-out details in some scenes,
boss music in the Randomizer, spray absorption and some menu wording.

Open Nectar 1.0.7 - Fixed a LOT of crashes and Pikmin 2 Audio
Open Nectar 1.0.7
This release is about stability. Both games were audited for the kind of
code that worked by luck on the GameCube and crashes or misbehaves on a PC
or phone, and Pikmin 2 gets two long-standing audio fixes. Saves, settings
and texture packs carry over.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. On Android, install the new
APK over the old one.
Pikmin 2: audio
- Level music no longer plays over in-game cutscenes (#135). Discovering
a treasure, bringing one to the ship, finding a new Pikmin type or drinking
nectar for the first time now silence the area music as on GameCube.
Music fade-outs fade again instead of cutting off. - Missing sound effects in Stereo and Mono are back (#135). Plucking
grass, the ship in caves and the save chime, among others, were only
heard with the sound set to Surround. - Sound effects follow their volume and left/right position while they
play, instead of keeping the values they started with.
Pikmin 2: crashes and freezes
-
Fixed a crash at the end of the day (#142).
-
Fixed a freeze when changing areas on Windows (entering a cave,
starting Story). -
Fixed crashes while generating cave floors, in some cutscenes, in the
title, options, file copy and extras menus, in branching dialogues, with
the Waterwraith and with some sound effects. -
Achievement toasts and keyboard input no longer use memory that is freed
when the game changes area. -
Fixed a crash after pressing Begin on Android and a crash when leaving
the Piklopedia. -
Fixed the "memory card" crash when entering a cave and other rare
crashes and freezes caused by the game's threads running at the same time.
Pikmin 2 now schedules its threads like the GameCube did: one at a time,
by priority, so code written for the console no longer races on PC and
Android.
Pikmin 2: performance
- Piklopedia and Treasure Hoard run at full speed on Android and their
3D models load quickly. In widescreen their side bars are now black
instead of copying the edge colour, which stalled phone GPUs every frame. - Faster loading screens when entering an area, a cave floor or a
2-Player Battle / Challenge stage. - Sound mixing runs alongside the game, as the GameCube's DSP did, which
frees frame time on phones without crackling.
Pikmin 1: crashes
- Fixed a crash when the collision search gave up, and another with more
objects on the field than the game expected (high Pikmin limits). - Fixed crashes and errors with the Burrowing Snagret, the damage effect,
menus and some debug messages. - Achievement, versus and captain portrait icons no longer show corrupted
textures after changing area.
Both games
- Better crash reports. Reports now say why the game stopped (for
example which check failed and where), Android reports include the call
stack, and on Windows a failed check opens the crash report instead of
closing the game silently. - Freeze reports (Pikmin 2). If the game stops responding for 30
seconds, a report is written and the launcher offers to send it. - Divisions by zero no longer crash on Windows and Linux. The GameCube
and Android carry on; PC now does too. - The decompiled code is built with safer compiler settings, which removes
a whole family of crashes that only happened with optimised builds.

Open Nectar 1.0.6 – Crash reports, Pikmin 2 fixes
Open Nectar 1.0.6
This release fixes a long list of Pikmin 2 bugs reported by players, adds a
crash reporter to both games and tidies up the Pikmin 1 settings menu. Saves,
settings and texture packs carry over.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. On Android, install the new
APK over the old one.
Crash reports
- If a game crashes, the launcher opens with a crash report. One button
copies the report and the game log to your clipboard and opens a new GitHub
issue, so you only have to paste it and send it. Your user name is removed
from file paths. On Android the report is offered the next time you open
the app. - Pikmin 1 now writes
pikmin.logwhen started from the launcher, like
Pikmin 2 does withpikmin2.log.
Pikmin 2: fixes
- Fixed a crash on Android when pressing Begin on the title screen.
- Fixed wrong ship textures after leaving a cave.
- The radar map in the pause menu is no longer empty.
- The ship icon animates again in dialogues and Explorer Kit messages,
and Explorer Kit treasures show their correct message. - Cursor rings no longer flicker at 60 FPS (#136).
- Enemy animation sounds no longer replay at the end of an animation.
- 60 FPS audit: timers, fades and effects that ran twice as fast at
60 FPS now keep the original speed.
Pikmin 1: controls and settings
- D-pad Down lies Olimar down again on a controller (#138). Swarm to
cursor is now its own controller binding in Controls > Bindings, with or
without Free Camera. - Tidier settings menu. Keyboard and controller bindings are now at the
top of Controls. Options that depend on another one (gyro sensitivity,
mouse sensitivity, colour sliders, Charge) are hidden until that option is
turned on, instead of showing greyed out. - The Language option was removed from the port's menu: choose the
language in the game's own options, as on GameCube.

Open Nectar 1.0.5 - Fixes
Open Nectar 1.0.5
This release restores short sound effects and Pikmin voices that could be cut
off in Pikmin 2. It also improves Linux controller compatibility and fixes the
Pikmin 1 logo in packaged builds. Saves, settings and texture packs carry over.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. On Android, install the new
APK over the old one.
Pikmin 2: audio
- Short sound effects and Pikmin voices play correctly again. The native
audio backend could discard short, lower-priority sounds while filling its
audio queue, particularly when several sounds played close together. - More reliable sound data handling. The ARAM and DSP compatibility code
now preserves the data and timing expected by the original audio engine.
Pikmin 1: Linux compatibility
- Improved controller support on Linux. Packaged builds now include the
required input compatibility path for controllers that were not detected
correctly before. - The Pikmin 1 logo is included correctly in packaged builds.

Open Nectar 1.0.4 - Map and Crashes Fixes
Open Nectar 1.0.4
This release fixes the crashes in Pikmin 2 when entering caves, travelling to
a new area or loading an area after saving. It also makes the area map run
smoothly on Android and lets you control the map by touch. Saves, settings
and texture packs carry over.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. On Android, install the new
APK over the old one.
Pikmin 2: crash fixes
- No more crashes when entering a cave, travelling to a new area, or
landing after saving. The game often crashed just as the level started
(usually right after the landing cutscene). The walk animation kept its
data in memory that the game frees when it loads a new area. That data now
stays valid between areas.
Pikmin 2: area map
- The map runs at full speed on Android. On phones it was extremely
slow because of the way the sides of the screen were filled in widescreen. - New widescreen sides. The map's frame and photo only exist in 4:3, so
the sides now show the dark blue fabric from the Extras menu with a
vignette, instead of a stretched copy of the frame's edge. - Touch controls (Android), like in Pikmin 1:
- Tap another unlocked area to fly the ship there.
- Tap the selected area to bring up the landing prompt.
- Tap Piklopedia or Treasures to open them.
Pikmin 2: menus
- Controller: LB/RB switch tabs in the F1 menu. The shoulder buttons did
nothing in Pikmin 2's settings menu, so you could not change tabs with a
controller. Holding the arrow keys on a keyboard now repeats in that menu
too. - Options and file select: in widescreen, the background now simply
continues to the sides of the screen. This replaces an effect that slowed
down phones.

Open Nectar 1.0.3 - Randomizer and Touch Fixes
Open Nectar 1.0.3
This release makes Pikmin 2 easier to play on Android touch screens and
redesigns its Randomizer window to work like the one in Pikmin 1. Saves,
settings and texture packs carry over.
Updating: press Update in your launcher. On Android, install the new
APK over the old one.
Pikmin 2: touch controls (Android)
- The landing prompt on the map can be answered by touch. When you
pick an area on the map, the yes/no question about landing did not react
to the touch screen. Now a cancel button appears in the bottom-left
corner and a confirm button in the bottom-right corner. - The same two buttons appear in the other game menus, so you can always
confirm or go back with your thumbs, even where tapping an option does
not respond.
Pikmin 2: Randomizer window
- Same layout as Pikmin 1. The window now has two pages:
- Introduction: a short explanation of what the Randomizer does.
A continues, B goes back to the title screen. - Randomizer Settings: one row per option with its value in a box
(< value >). Use the arrows to change it, or tap the left or right
half of the box. B goes back to the introduction.
- Introduction: a short explanation of what the Randomizer does.
- Seed code row: press A to type a friend's code (on Android this opens
the keyboard). Ctrl+C copies your code and Ctrl+V pastes one. An invalid
code keeps your current one and shows a warning. - New random seed row to roll a new seed, and a Start button at the
bottom. - Fits on phone screens. The window used to be too big on Android and
was cut off; it now shrinks to fit the screen. - The window uses Pikmin 2's own menu plates and text style.
