Release list
symbolhop 0.1.0
First release of symbolhop, a free, open-source MCP server and command line tool that gives coding agents go-to-definition and find-references.
- Five read-only tools for Codex, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Cursor and any MCP client:
lsp_definition,lsp_references,lsp_hover,lsp_diagnosticsandlsp_symbols. - Exact, short answers from the language servers you already have (clangd, typescript-language-server, pyright, gopls, rust-analyzer, sourcekit-lsp and more), one line per result, instead of a page of grep.
- Measured: on a made-up C project, the uses of a function came back as 10 exact lines, where grep returned 59 to 77, most of them comments, log messages and a similarly named function. About 9 to 11 times fewer tokens. How it was measured.
- Symbols by name: the agent gives the file, the line and the symbol, not a column.
- Safe to hand over: read-only, only files inside the project, never writes anything (not even a language server's cache), no network, no dependencies.
