Need a keyboard shortcut to create a new note

I've just started experimenting with Standard Notes on the Mac and I noticed that the only way to create a new note seems to be by clicking the "+" button at the top of the notes list.

It's very annoying to have to take a hand off the keyboard to start a new note.

I propose a new shortcut of Command+N (Ctrl+N for Windows/Linux), which would create a new note and place the cursors in the Title field.

Right now the app does not support many keyboard shortcuts, but we would like to address this somewhere during/after v4 (in planning stage) 👍

Hi, I understand GitHub issues is not the place for chat, however I clicked through from the website link to "Forum" so I feel less guilty about making chat-like comments here on this thread.

I was excited to test S.Notes after a recommendation in Facebook > HomeLabs group and several very good reviews on the Apple App Store. I had it installed for a few minutes before noticing that I couldn't do very basic tasks with keyboard shortcuts, like Ctrl-N for new note, Ctrl-Tab for tabbing through notes, Ctrl-Shift-Up or Down to shift lines up or down, Ctrl-D to duplicate lines etc.

I can't even click on a note in the list and press the delete key to delete the note... wow

Then I spent a while searching through all the help docs which do not make a single mention of keyboard shortcuts. Was I going mad? No - I was wasting a lot of my time!

Whilst I'm sure this is an excellent product in many ways, you really should not advertise this product like this "our users love us for code and technical procedures"... if even the very basic shortcuts are not supported, I seriously doubt technical users will love this product.

Although the above sounds like a whinge, I hope it's taken as a constructive comment; I very much doubt non-tech types will search and find a product like this, and I suspect techs like me who did search will give it a day before uninstalling, because of the lack of technical features like keyboard shortcuts.

Sublime Text gives me perpetually saved notes, if my computer hard disk dies, the app is stored on Dropbox so all the temp files get saved. The reason I was looking for a replacement was because I can't then access quick notes on other devices. I use Dynalist and other cloud apps for other types of writing, Visual Studio for code, this was just for plain text notes that I wanted to be able to access on other devices.

We have undocumented keyboard shortcuts but they need to be tweaked a little. You can try your luck with any combination cmd + shit + n for new note, and cmd + shift + delete for deleting (add alt to perma-delete). The reason these are experimental is that there are a few edge cases we need to iron out. One is that if an external editor is in focus, the shortcuts won't be registered. Another is that web and desktop use different shortcuts. Yet another is that Windows/Mac/Linux are behaving differently and we need to reconcile that. We have a big 3.5 release scheduled for the next month or two, then after that, we plan on doing a 3.5.x that should fix this issue and make the shortcuts more consistent.

Hope this is not taken as a useless comment, but as a Mac/Linux user looking for a complete alternative to macOS/Linux/iOS/Android note taking with open-source privacy to boot, I really need the complete normal set of keyboard shortcuts like CMD/CTRL-N, F, etc, before I can move to Standard Notes. Appreciate the work you're doing, and hoping this basic feature can be added soon!
