Categories/Grouping for feeds

I think it would be nice to have a way to categorize feeds into groups.

I currently use Feedly, and would like to move away from it, but I rely a bit on groups to focus my reading since I have anywhere from 700-800 newsfeed entries a day, and its a bit rough having them all just in 1 list.

I personally do not use groups/folders so I won't be tackling this with a high priority at the moment, but I am open to this idea - provided that the interface for filtering by folder and adding a feed to a folder is done correctly.

If anyone wants to take a stab at this, post up a mockup and I'd be happy to take a look.

I can try to do a mockup later, and I know its not high priority, more of a feature I would love to see sometime.

And folders don't have to be concrete. you can still have your master list. But then you can have Categories/Folders that are just metadata. In the DB it can be a single row with a list of IDs to the feeds in the second column.

When a user selects a category, it just takes whatever IDs are in the list and only shows articles from feeds in the list.

Or you can do a row per category -> feed. Many ways to store this in DB to use joins, or a single row query, etc. You can do an HStore with a json list.

Thats my idea. I can do a mockup or even a pull request later. I am generally busy since I work at a startup, but we'll see if I can scrounge some time to help out.

+1 if possible it would be nice to have multiple categories/tags per feed.
+2 Google reader exports categories, that information shouldnt be lost

I'd like to see this eventually extended to also include the ability to show only items from a specific feed. Sometimes I want to catch up or just clear all items from one source.

I put all of my feeds in folders and read them folder by folder. So I can leave out boring stuff, if I have no time to read it.

#244 was merged just now, adding a group model to the backend and support for creating groups on import. What still needs to be done is to implement a decent UI for this on the frontend. If someone wants to have a go at that, feel free to open a Pull Request.
