| Windows | Pracre-Windows-x64-Setup.exe | Run it; it asks for admin rights to install into Program Files\STCD\Pracre and adds the .pracre file type. If SmartScreen warns about a new app, choose More info, then Run anyway. Windows 10 and 11 |
| macOS | Pracre-macOS-Universal.dmg | Open it and drag Pracre to Applications; it is not signed, so on macOS 15 and later click Open Anyway under System Settings > Privacy & Security after the first try, and on earlier versions right-click it and choose Open. macOS 12 or later, Intel and Apple silicon |
| Ubuntu and Debian | Pracre-Linux-x64.deb | sudo apt install ./Pracre-Linux-x64.deb, which brings in WebKitGTK. Ubuntu 22.04 or later, Debian 12 |
| Other Linux | Pracre-Linux-x64.tar.gz | Unpack it and run ./install.sh, which installs for your user without root. Needs GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1 |
Pracre-Windows-x64-Portable.zip runs on Windows without installing, and Pracre-macOS-Universal.zip holds the macOS app on its own. SHA256SUMS.txt lists every file's checksum.
Pracre 1.1.1 keeps exported images and web maps to the map title, and names each sample for the measure it opens with.
Both turned up while making the screenshots for pracre.org on 1.1.0.
Exports carry the map title alone. Export Image draws the title bar without the "Half of all tax revenue comes from 3.8% of the land" line, as the summary card has since 1.1.0, and the Export web map dialog starts with an empty subtitle that you can still fill in. The image keeps its map data credit and the web map its "Made with Pracre" link in the corner.
Samples are named for what they show. The Township of Langley sample opens on tax revenue, since it ships with its 2024 tax rates, and is now titled "Township of Langley, tax revenue per acre" instead of "value per acre". Port Huron has no rates and stays "Port Huron, value per acre". The title box, the summary card and both exports use that title.
Checks. CI on cf4d540 passed every leg, covering the tests on Linux, the Windows, macOS and Linux builds and the release. go test passes unchanged, since both fixes are in the front end. In a dev build the Langley and Port Huron samples opened with the titles above, and Export Image and the Export web map dialog came up without the half-of-revenue line. The Windows portable zip from this tag matched its checksum and holds the new front end; none of the installers was launched.

Pracre 1.1.0 reads every coordinate system, more location formats and more kinds of assessment file, folds strata units drawn in holes of their common property into their lot, and ships the whole Township of Langley and Port Huron, Michigan as samples.
This round comes from testing against open parcel and assessment data from Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, New York City, Philadelphia, Wake County (North Carolina), Massachusetts and France.
Every coordinate system is built in. All 7,800 EPSG and ESRI projected systems and 1,400 geographic ones, from PROJ's database, so a bare code such as EPSG:2264 or an ArcGIS wkid works offline and State Plane files from ArcGIS land in the right place without a .prj. The methods parcel data uses are all there, Krovak, the Swiss and Dutch grids, oblique and polar stereographic, Cassini, Polyconic and Lambert azimuthal among them, with axes stored southing or westing first read the right way round. Against PROJ at about 39,000 points every method agrees to a centimetre, the Swiss grids to 4 cm. About 38 systems on rarer methods (Equal Earth, the New Zealand Map Grid, Krovak Modified) say they are unsupported rather than guess.
Older datums shift to WGS 84 for where the data sits. NAD27, OSGB36, ED50, MGI, Tokyo and the rest take the regional Helmert or offset transformation whose area covers the data, and 7,550 of 7,740 systems land within 2 m of PROJ end to end. NAD27 is good to 5 to 10 m, since grid shifts are not included. WKT2 text from epsg.io works, as do .prj files that name only their datum.
Unlabelled coordinates find their system. They are tried in every projected system near the map view, and the import window shows where they land. "Guess for This Area" ranks the systems again for wherever its small map is moved, which settles State Plane files that fit many states.
More location formats. MGRS and USNG grid references, UTM text such as "10U 525199 5432031", Plus codes and geohashes in a column; hex WKB geometry, as in Philadelphia's assessment CSV and other PostGIS or Carto exports; Opendatasoft JSON, UTF-16 text from Excel, decimal commas in semicolon-separated files and CSV files with title rows above the header.
Strata units in holes of their common property join their lot. In the Township of Langley the 182 townhouse units at 20391 96 AVE sit in 34 holes cut out of the common property at 20381 96 AVE. They stood alone at $83,600 of tax per acre and now fold into one 17.6 acre lot at about $29,600, with their land and shapes added. A parcel counts as common property only with an address or name, no value of its own and at least two units in its holes, so road right-of-way shapes (3,689 lots sit in Abington's, in the MassGIS data) and assessed lots keep the parcels they surround. Condo master parcels in Port Huron and HOA lots in Raleigh fold the same way.
Values link more often. Multi-year exports, such as Vancouver's tax report, use only the latest roll year instead of adding the years together. Tables that repeat a lot's ID for every strata unit link by that ID, so condo units reach their lot. current_land_value, county values and taxable land plus buildings read as values, and ID, legal description and building count columns no longer read as values or locations. Dropping all of a shapefile's parts at once imports it once, and empty files and ArcGIS error replies say what is wrong.
Two samples under File > Sample Data. The whole Township of Langley, 53,199 parcels and 49,507 assessment records with its 2024 tax rates ($231.25M of tax), and every parcel in Port Huron, Michigan with its 2024 taxable value (12,346 parcels, $664M), without owner names or mailing addresses. A sample opens in place of what is loaded, after asking about unsaved changes.
The summary card is shorter, and can be hidden. It shows the map title, total, acres and parcel count, and Display > Map > Show summary card turns it off. The card, image and web map titles follow the measure on the map (value or tax, per acre or per hectare).
Fixes in the app. Opening a project restores its display settings and camera. The Tax Rates table keeps rows and units edited while a save is in progress, deleted rows disappear at once and rates typed with a decimal comma read correctly. The map moves to the data when a dataset's location changes, and switching to 3D no longer cuts short a zoom to the data. The import window's small map stays in place while you edit, with zoom buttons, and marking a column as a tax rate no longer breaks the window. The checklist explains when a values file covers more ground than the parcels and points to the link settings when no values reach the map. CSV exports can no longer carry spreadsheet formulas from imported text.
Windows and links. Windows installs into Program Files\STCD\Pracre. The About dialog and Help menu link to strongtowns.dev, and the toolbar shows the name alone beside the logo.
Checks. CI on 05f8e4c passed every leg, covering the tests on Linux, the Windows, macOS and Linux builds and the release. go test covers the projections, the EPSG table, the location encodings, the common property merge and both samples, and with the Township files beside the repository runs the whole pipeline to the Township's $231,250,988 tax total. The Windows setup from this tag was downloaded, matched its checksum and holds this build; none of the installers was launched.
Pracre 1.0.0

What's in it
- Imports CSV, Excel, GeoJSON, Esri JSON, Shapefile (zipped or loose), KML and KMZ, by drag and drop or Import Data.
- Recognises IDs, values, tax classes, lot sizes, addresses and locations in any column layout, and shows every guess in an import window where each column's role can be changed.
- Reads parcel polygons or points in latitude/longitude, "lat, lon", degrees-minutes-seconds, WKT or projected X/Y, with coordinate systems from .prj, GeoJSON, Esri metadata or a guess checked on a mini-map.
- Links value tables to parcels by their shared ID, then by location, and reports the match rate in the checklist.
- Folds strata and condo units into the lots they sit on.
- Computes tax from mill rates, percentages or fractions per tax class, or uses tax amounts directly.
- Shows parcels, hexagon tiles or square tiles in 2D or 3D over OpenStreetMap, with quantile, natural breaks, logarithmic or equal interval legends and six colour ramps.
- Exports PNG images, self-contained 2D and 3D web maps with embed code, 3D models (.glb), GeoJSON and CSV.
- Saves whole projects, data included, in one .pracre file.
- Includes a Township of Langley sample (Walnut Grove and Fort Langley) to try everything in one click.
