v0.3.0
utu.dem
Adds utu.dem.plowman, the regularized differential emission measure inversion of Plowman & Caspi (2020). It is a Numba port of simple_reg_dem from EMToolKit, with a named-arrays front end: every axis of the intensity other than the channel is a separate inversion.
- Reproduces the reference. The DEMs agree with EMToolKit to about 1e-11 relative on AIA data. Its defaults are those of the code listing in the paper's appendix, which produced the published results, not the slightly different ones its text describes.
- Fast. It's about 40 times faster than the reference on one core and runs on every core. A full 4096² six-channel AIA image takes about 12 s, against about four hours for the reference.
- Any units. The intensity, uncertainty and response can be in any compatible units, or plain numbers. The floor of the initial guess defaults to 0.01 in the units of the intensity, as in the reference.
- Uncertain inputs. An uncertain intensity or uncertainty gives an uncertain DEM and χ², each sample inverted as one more pixel.
- Validated up front. Arguments that cannot be inverted are rejected before anything runs. Pixels whose fit failed have a χ² below zero.
Adds numba as a dependency. It is imported only when a DEM is computed, so import utu doesn't pay for it.
