  • TrueHD Atmos and DTS:X can be delivered as a lossless PCM bed (ObjectAudioRendering.render / .lpcm).
Rendered object audio only left the engine as APAC, a lossy encode of the bed. tvOS takes 12 and 16 channels of
24-bit PCM and sends them to an Atmos receiver as Dolby MAT itself, and iOS spatialises them on AirPods, so the
rendered bed can now go out bit for bit: over HLS as ipcm in the bed's CoreAudio Atmos layout, and on the
software host as PCM sample buffers. .render(layout) chooses per route at load (PCM, or APAC when an AirPlay port
is in the route, or on macOS an AirPlay default output device), .lpcm(layout) and .apac(layout)
force one. Measured on an Apple TV 4K into a Sonos, on an iPhone with AirPods and on a MacBook Air (speakers and
AirPods), 7.1.4 and 9.1.6, every channel on its own speaker. .apac is unchanged. aetherctl takes
    --bed-format apac|lpcm. See docs/formats.md.
