TextEditor+ 1.1.0

What's new in 1.1.0

  • Drop files on the Dock icon to open them, or use Open With → TextEditor+ in Finder. TextEditor+ never makes itself the default app for any file type.
  • Windows portable app: a ready-to-run 64-bit build for Windows 10 and 11 that needs no installation and keeps its settings in its own folder.
  • Close Window (⌘W / Ctrl+W) in the File menu. On macOS the app stays in the Dock after its window closes, as Mac apps do. Click the icon or drop a file on it to bring the window back.
  • Hardening:
    • A file opened from the Dock or Finder while a dialog is open (such as Save As) now waits until the dialog closes. Before, it could replace the document under the dialog.
    • On macOS and Linux, the regular-file check is now made on the opened file itself, so a file swapped for a pipe or device at the last moment can't hang the app.
    • Fixed syntax-highlighting slowdowns that a crafted file with one very long line could trigger in the HTML highlighter.
    • Linux builds turn on _FORTIFY_SOURCE and stack-clash protection, and qmake builds now use the same compiler and linker hardening as CMake builds.

About TextEditor+

TextEditor+ is a lightweight code and text editor for macOS, Windows and Linux, written in C++ with Qt 6.

TextEditor+ is the OS-native version of Web TextEditor. It keeps the same look and features, and adds native file handling, printing, find/replace and more.

Highlights

  • Syntax highlighting for HTML (including embedded <script> and <style>), CSS, JavaScript, C and C++, picked automatically from the file extension
  • Dracula (dark) and Eclipse (light) themes, matching the web version
  • Find and replace with match case, whole word, regular expressions and \1 back-references
  • Printing of the whole file or a selection, in colours suited to paper
  • Native file handling: your system's Open/Save dialogs, an unsaved-changes marker in the title bar, and a prompt before closing
  • Editing: line numbers, current-line highlight, auto-indent, word wrap, Go to Line
  • Fonts and zoom: pick any installed monospace font; zoom with A+/A− or Ctrl/Cmd + scroll wheel
  • Faithful saving: keeps each file's line endings (LF/CRLF) and encoding (UTF-8 or Latin-1). Saves are atomic, so a failed save never leaves a half-written file.
  • Safeguards: won't open devices or pipes, and asks before opening binary files or files over 50 MB
  • Open files by drag and drop or from the command line
  • Remembers your window size, font, theme and word-wrap setting
