v0.00 – Initial Release

Release Date: 2025-10-02

Overview

This is the initial release of Simple Music Player, a JavaFX-based desktop music player. The application supports playing MP3 and WAV files, displays song metadata including album art, and provides a visual waveform for the currently playing track.

Features

  • Play, pause, next, and previous track controls.
  • Visual waveform display of the currently playing song.
  • Library view that automatically loads songs from a selected directory.
  • Search library by title, artist, or album.
  • Sort library by title, artist, album, duration, date added, or shuffle tracks.
  • Clickable song cards to start playback.
  • Directory chooser for selecting custom music folders.

Known Issues

⚠️ Requires Java 25 or later (not bundled with the installer). Please install it manually. See more details in the Installation section

  • Performance: The app is unoptimized; may lag with large songs or large libraries (>100 songs).
  • Memory Usage: Loading many songs with album art may consume significant memory.
  • No playlists or persistent library: Library resets on restart.
  • Limited formats: Only MP3 and WAV files supported.

Installation (WIN only)

  1. Install Java 25 or later (Recommended: Azul Zulu OpenJDK 25 (LTS)).

    • Make sure Java is installed and added to your PATH.

    • You can verify by running this command in Command Prompt:

      java --version

      It should show something like:

      openjdk 25 2025-09-16 LTS
OpenJDK Runtime Environment Zulu25.28+85-CA (build 25+36-LTS)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM Zulu25.28+85-CA (build 25+36-LTS, mixed mode, sharing)

  2. Download and extract the latest release .zip.

  3. Run Simple_Music_Player_0.2.0.exe.

  4. Select your music directory and enjoy!

Notes

  • This is a pre-alpha release.
  • Future updates will include performance improvements, playlist management, and support for additional audio formats.
