Libre Panel 0.7.0 on Windows: What Worked for Me
In my case, Libre Panel would start in the background when Windows booted, but it would get stuck and place a heavy load on the processor. While the interface remained functional, the system tray icon and the web editor failed to appear. However, if I launched Libre Panel manually, it worked fine.
I wanted to identify the cause without immediately tinkering with autostart settings or themes. I began by examining the running process and then used py-spy to see what Python was currently doing. It turned out that the main thread was getting stuck during a file-creation step: Libre Panel attempts to create a temporary token file in the
%APPDATA%\LibrePanel\privatedirectory before the web editor can launch. The breakthrough came when I checked the folder permissions: Libre Panel was running under my standard Windows user account, but that account lacked "modify" (write/change) permissions for that folder. While the "SYSTEM" account and administrators had write access, my user account did not—which explained why the startup process kept stalling at the exact same point.
After terminating the hung Libre Panel processes, I granted my user account the necessary "modify" permissions for that folder and its contents. Following this, Libre Panel started normally: the tray icon appeared, the web editor became responsive, and the interface loaded correctly. Launching it via the Start menu also worked as expected.
Simple Steps to Resolve the Issue
%APPDATA%\LibrePanel\privatein Windows Explorer. If Windows denies the permission change, you may need to provide administrator confirmation. Grant modification rights only to the specific user account in question; "Full control" for "Everyone" is not required.
In my case, this was the exact cause. If the permissions are already correct, or if Libre Panel continues to hang afterward, you should first investigate where the process is getting stuck, rather than changing further permissions on a hunch.
To the developer: Great app—exactly what those Chinese displays were missing to become a truly useful tool. Keep it up, I love it!
