OpenScience now reuses unchanged parts of a previously downloaded macOS update, reducing the amount you need to download for later releases. The update flow stays the same: click Download, then restart when you are ready.

Faster update downloads

  • Apple Silicon and Intel Macs can download only the changed portions of an update using a locally cached, verified archive.
  • Missing or damaged caches, unsupported downloads, and updates that change most of the app automatically use the normal full download.
  • Every reconstructed download must match the complete release checksum before the existing signature, notarization, health, and rollback checks run.

In verification against the previous release, the new downloader transferred 68% less data on Apple Silicon and 69% less on Intel, including download metadata. Savings depend on how much changes between releases.

This release installs the new downloader and retains the archive needed for the next update. The first upgrade to this version still uses the existing full download.

Verification

Both macOS architectures are checked against the previous signed release, including archive reconstruction, first-upgrade cache retention, successful installation, and rollback after a simulated startup failure. Release checks also cover the packaged CLI, browser workflows, and all five scientific capabilities.

The Windows desktop installer is unsigned while Microsoft Artifact Signing setup is incomplete.
