Hi @blardyblar, there's now a research request for CAM, #1621. It gathers the fundamentals (toolpaths, G-code and posts, simulation and verification, machine kinematics) and the project's clean-room rules for this area in one place, so it might be a good place to start. The CAM work that's open is linked there too: #2819 and #2881 (a CAM core and its commands), the Manufacture plan in #2652, and #4158. Research contributions are very welcome from anyone, each in their own |

SolidCraft is quite useable now for sketches and solid modeling (after only about a week!) even if it's not 100% perfect yet. It's more than complete enough for a bunch of parts I'd like to machine. It would be really great to get some work going on the CAM side of things. There's quite a lot there that needs to be done.
I'd love to work on that and contribute, but I have no idea where to start on getting the UI and basic functionality replicated / reproduced in the proper (legal) manor that's consistent with the philosophy of the project. Maybe it would be a good idea, just like what's already been accomplished, to get at least a minimal scaffolding of the basics up and going, so that more contributors can work on the refinement and finer details of getting the full implementation working properly.
