Release list
v0.1.0
The first release of ted, a fast, lightweight, native text editor for Linux, Windows and macOS.
Highlights
- Opens anything at once. The first screen of a 100 MB log shows in under 100 ms while the rest loads in the background; scrolling stays at the display's refresh rate and a keystroke is painted in the next frame, also in that file. An idle window uses no CPU and no GPU.
- Files and folders. Open a file on its own, several files in tabs, or a folder with its explorer: lazy,
.gitignoreaware, and following changes on disk. Recent folders and files are one click away. - Tabs that keep their scroll, cursor and undo history, switch instantly, reorder by dragging, and ask before losing unsaved changes.
- Editing with selection, clipboard, undo and redo, indentation that follows the file, and the file's own line ending and byte order mark kept.
- Syntax highlighting with tree-sitter for Rust, JavaScript, JSON, TOML, Markdown, HTML, XML and Makefiles, incremental as you type, and a fast highlighter for logs of any size.
- Find in file (
Ctrl+F) with a match counter, case sensitivity andF3, counting in the background so even a 100 MB log never makes the window wait. - A minimap at the right of the editor, in the syntax colors, that also scrolls the document.
- Saving you can trust: atomic writes, trailing whitespace and the final newline fixed on save, and files changed by other programs reloaded or asked about.
- Settings (
Ctrl+,) that apply at once and live in a plainsettings.toml: language (English and Spanish), light or dark theme, font sizes, line numbers, current line, minimap, tab size, the save cleanup and the explorer's exclude patterns. - Command line:
ted file, ted .,ted a.txt b.txt,--helpand--version. - Packages for every platform: a per user Windows installer that puts
tedon the PATH and adds "Open with ted" to Explorer, a portable zip, a macOS disk image, and Linux deb, rpm, Arch package, AppImage and tarball. Checksums inSHA256SUMS.
The builds are not code signed yet: macOS and Windows ask once before the first launch. See the download page and the documentation.
