I just found out about /Data External which seems to allow the use of database drivers, possibly to connect to a relational database.
I didn't find much about this, I doubt odbc and those things were available back then, but it would really be interesting if it was possible to populate a few cells from an external program automatically without the use of macros. I'm still looking for more docs about this, any ideas welcomed.

There is an API we could use to add basically any data source - in theory there's no reason we couldn't add odbc, or anything else. At the moment there's just the stub driver that doesn't do anything, but I had thought about adding a Google Finance driver or something!
