Changelog
Added
WorkflowStartOptions::versioning_override and WorkflowUpdateWithStartOptions::versioning_override support pinned, auto-upgrade, and
one-time deployment routing for client-started workflows, including signal-with-start and
update-with-start. Pinned and auto-upgrade overrides require Temporal Server 1.28.0 or later;
one-time routing requires Temporal Server 1.32.0 or later.
Experimental ChildWorkflowOptions::versioning_override can pin, auto-upgrade, or one-time
route a child workflow independently of its parent, using VersioningOverride. Requires
Temporal Server 1.32.0 or later. Rejected overrides are reported as StartChildWorkflowExecutionFailedCause::InvalidVersioningOverride; missing child namespaces
are now distinguished by StartChildWorkflowExecutionFailedCause::NamespaceNotFound.
Adds experimental OpenTelemetry integration tracing client, Workflow, and Activity operations
and propagating trace context across Temporal invocations. Use OpenTelemetryPlugin::builder()
with the experimental and opentelemetry features to configure a SimplePlugin.
Fixed
temporalio-common's build script now generates its payload-visitor implementations in a
stable order. The generated code was emitted in HashSet/HashMap iteration order, so its
content changed on every build and a compilation cache such as sccache missed temporalio-common and every crate downstream of it on every build.
Autoscaled task pollers now preserve polling concurrency after transient cancellations and
timeouts while still applying retry backoff.
Workflow start_update now waits for acceptance before returning a handle, retrying successful
responses below Accepted with the same encoded request and update ID.
Newly recorded local activity results preserve their activation grouping during replay, preventing
workflows that wait for the first completion from receiving a result on the wrong activity handle.
Histories recorded without grouping information retain the previous replay behavior.
Sticky workflow backlog no longer prevents normal pollers from using capacity after sticky
pollers reach their polling limit.
Workflow task failures are now reported to the server only on a task's first attempt, no
matter why the task failed. Previously a completion rejected for exceeding the worker's payload
size error limit, or a failure to fetch workflow history, was re-reported on every retry.
The temporal_workflow_task_execution_failed metric now counts every failed workflow task
attempt, including ones whose failure was not sent to the server, and tags size-related failures
with their specific failure_reason (GrpcMessageTooLarge, PayloadsTooLarge, RequestTooLarge) on every path.
