Release list
OpenSignage 1.4.8
Player updates you can follow for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage for bars,
restaurants and events.
Added
- "Update failed" as a problem: a player whose update failed or rolled back to its
previous version shows "Update failed" with the version and the reason in plain words –
before, only "version differs" was listed. - The log of the failed version: a player that rolled back sends the last log lines and
the crash output of the failed version along. The problems list and the updates page show
them, folded, so the cause can be found without access to the device.
Changed
- Offline is a warning: screens switched off at night or outside opening hours raise no
alarm any more. The sidebar shows errors only; warnings stay on the dashboard (yellow) and
the problems page. - Shorter updates page: only releases with files on this server and newer ones are listed
(older releases only on GitHub cannot be installed and are hidden), and the history shows
the newest ten entries, older ones on request.
Fixed
- The reasons of failed player updates (e.g. "crash_loop") were shown as codes; they are
explained now in every language.

OpenSignage 1.4.7
Logo and download fix for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage for bars,
restaurants and events.
Fixed
- Brand logos after replacing their image: the size of a logo in a product list is
measured from the image. The measurement was kept per image address, which stays the same
when a medium is replaced – within the same browser session a replaced logo could keep the
size of its previous image and came out larger or smaller than the other logos. Every logo
is now measured from the image it shows. - Downloads keep their file extension: a downloaded original (or an earlier version of
it) had no extension when the medium was renamed; it now gets the extension of its
content.

OpenSignage 1.4.6
Presentation fix for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage for bars, restaurants
and events.
Fixed
- Video settings are kept: a video switched to play once (Loop off) or with sound
(Muted off) lost that setting when the presentation was saved – after reopening, and on
the screens, it looped and was muted again. Both settings now survive saving and
publishing. Videos changed before this version need the setting once more (switch it off
and publish).

Update
Installations on 1.x update from the web interface (Settings → Updates): the server updates
itself first, then the players zone by zone. The fix is in the server; the players need no

OpenSignage 1.4.5
Raspberry Pi screens and Wi-Fi bands for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage
for bars, restaurants and events.
Added
- HDMI output always on (Raspberry Pi): many TVs do not report themselves to the Pi –
the boot screen showed, then the screen stayed black, also when the TV was switched on
after the player. The installer now switches the HDMI output on for good
(video=HDMI-A-1:Dincmdline.txt; the other port when only that one reports a
screen). The TV still reports its resolutions, so the display page and custom resolutions
work as usual. An HDMI setting already in the boot line is kept,--no-force-hdmileaves
the boot line alone, and the uninstaller removes the setting.
Fixed
- Both Wi-Fi bands in the scan: a network on 2.4 and 5 GHz showed only its stronger
band, so 5 GHz seemed to be missing. The scan now shows every band with its signal, e.g.
"2.4 GHz 72 % · 5 GHz 57 %". - No screen detected: when no screen reports itself, the display page of the player says
so and what helps, instead of "Display control is not available on this device".
All changes: CHANGELOG.md.
Update
Installations on 1.x update from the web interface (Settings → Updates): the server updates
itself first, then the players zone by zone. For the HDMI output and the bands in the Wi-Fi
scan run the client installer once more on the players – both change the system, which an
update from the administration does not (name, pairing and content stay):

OpenSignage 1.4.4
Network settings fix for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage for bars,
restaurants and events.
Fixed
- Login during a network change: applying a change takes up to about two minutes when
a Wi-Fi network does not connect at once – e.g. when it refuses the password. A login in
that time kept loading until the change was done. The login now waits at most a few
seconds and then leads to the network page, which follows the change (it reloads itself)
and shows the result. - Save now: a change that waits for its confirmation can be saved on the network page;
before, only a new login saved it. - Refused Wi-Fi password: on a Raspberry Pi the page now says in plain words that the
network refused the login (mostly a wrong password, sometimes a signal too weak) instead
of the message of NetworkManager.

OpenSignage 1.4.3
Time schedules with dates for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage for bars,
restaurants and events.
Added
- A period for time windows: a rule runs every week or only between two dates – e.g. a
happy hour on one Saturday in two weeks: weekday Saturday, From and Until that date.
One date may stay open (from a day on, or up to a day). A window counts on the days of the
period on which it starts, in the time zone of the server. - Check it today: the rules table shows the period, planned or expired, and a link to
the zone preview at the next time of the rule – the screens with the prices and the ticker
of that moment. - Week view by date: the timeline goes forward and back by week, shows the date of each
day and shows a dated rule only in its weeks. Rules on different dates do not count as
overlapping.
All changes: CHANGELOG.md.
Update
Installations on 1.x update from the web interface (Settings → Updates): the server updates
itself first, then the players zone by zone. Dated rules need the updated players – a player
keeps its current content until it has the update. No installer is needed for this release.

OpenSignage 1.4.2
Network settings fix for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage for bars,
restaurants and events.
Fixed
- Login right after a network change: after Apply on the player's network page the web
interface signs you out, and the next login confirms the change. Applying takes up to
about 30 seconds on Debian when the Wi-Fi does not connect at once (e.g. a network set up
in advance that is not in range yet). A login within that time found nothing to confirm
and the page still showed the old settings – a second login was needed. The login now
waits for the change and confirms it; if the change did not come up, the login leads to
its error on the network page.
All changes: CHANGELOG.md.
Update
Installations on 1.x update from the web interface (Settings → Updates): the server updates

OpenSignage 1.4.1
Wi-Fi in advance for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage for bars, restaurants
and events: set up a player's Wi-Fi over the LAN in the office, then take it to its place
without cable.
Changed: Wi-Fi can be set up in advance
Player web interface (https://<player-ip>:8443) → Network → Wi-Fi → Change settings:
- A Wi-Fi network that is not in range can be entered now – SSID, password, country.
Confirm the change with a login over the LAN as usual; the player joins the network as
soon as it is in range (also after a router restart or a power cut). - Meanwhile the network page says Not connected – joins "…" automatically as soon as the
network is in range. - A network in range that refuses the password is still undone at once, so a typo never
takes the player off the network.
On Debian players this already worked; on Raspberry Pi OS such a change used to be undone.
All changes: CHANGELOG.md ·
guide: docs/user-guide.md.
Update
Installations on 1.x update from the web interface (Settings → Updates): the server updates
itself first, then the players zone by zone.
Raspberry Pi players: the change is in the network helper, which only the client
installer replaces – run it once more (name, pairing and content stay):
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/testbild-media/OpenSignage/main/install.sh | sh -s -- playerPlayers still on 1.3.0 or older need the installer anyway for the network settings of 1.4.0.

OpenSignage 1.4.0
Network settings on the players for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage for bars,
restaurants and events: set up wired network and Wi-Fi in the player's own web interface,
plus defaults for new presentations and a tidier device page.
New: network settings on the players
Player web interface (https://<player-ip>:8443) → Network:
- Wired and Wi-Fi: DHCP or a fixed address (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, up to two
DNS servers). The form suggests the values in use; IPv6 stays automatic. - Wi-Fi: search networks (signal, security, 2.4/5 GHz), choose one, enter the password
(WPA2/WPA3) and the country of the radio rules. Signal strength, band, channel and data
rate are shown for the connection. Without a Wi-Fi adapter the page says so; missing
network firmware is named and installed on request. - Safe to change remotely: a change is active at once and the screen shows the new
address. It is kept only after the next login to the web interface – a restart without
that login returns to the previous settings, and a change that does not come up at all
(no DHCP answer, network not found) is undone at once. - Follows the system's network setup:
/etc/network/interfaceson Debian, NetworkManager on
Raspberry Pi OS. Updates and restarts of the player never take the connection down. - The device page of the administration shows each player's network: wired or Wi-Fi,
address, DHCP or fixed, Wi-Fi network and signal strength.
Tested on x86 with a USB Wi-Fi stick UGREEN CM493 (Realtek RTL8822BU) on Debian 13 – the
driver is in the kernel, the installer adds the firmware. Debian 12 lacks the drivers for
Realtek USB sticks. Supported adapters: docs/installation.md.
New: defaults for presentations
Settings → Defaults → Presentations: format of new presentations, slide duration,
background and transition of new slides, font and color of new texts, clocks and tickers,
and the product typography of new presentations – with the controls of the editor.
Existing presentations and templates keep their values.
Changed and fixed
- Device page: two columns instead of up to three narrow ones in which badges and buttons
ran out of their cards. - Editor: slides added in the editor get the default slide duration of the settings (they
always got 10 seconds). - Client uninstaller: network settings made in the web interface, network firmware and –
while Wi-Fi is in use – the Wi-Fi packages stay, so the device stays reachable. - Supported systems: Debian 12/13 and Raspberry Pi OS (Ubuntu was never tested and is no
longer listed).
All changes: CHANGELOG.md ·
guide: docs/user-guide.md.
Update
Installations on 1.x update from the web interface (Settings → Updates): the server updates
itself first, then the players zone by zone.
The network settings need the client installer once more on every player – updates from
the administration do not change the system's network permissions. Name, pairing and
content stay:

OpenSignage 1.3.0
Zone preview for OpenSignage – self-hosted digital signage for bars, restaurants and
events: see what the screens of a zone show, now or at any moment, even when no device is
online.
New: zone preview
Zones → eye icon, or Preview in the Running now box of the Time Schedules page:
- Every screen of the zone as its player shows it – content, prices of the time
schedules, ticker and what is sold out in the zone. - Now or a chosen moment, e.g. Monday 18:00, to check a happy hour before it starts;
from there the clock runs on and time windows switch as on the screens. - OPEN / CLOSED shows the zone in the other state without switching it.
- One tile per device with its online state and its place in the display group; a
display group without device (a menu wall not set up yet) shows one tile per screen of
its playlist. - A summary of the active rules, the ticker, the changed prices (base price struck
through) and the sold-out products and variants.
The server evaluates the schedule with the same function as the players, and the browser
renders with the players' engine – the preview shows exactly what a screen would show.
Sound is off in the preview.
Fixed
- Product variants: the bar through a sold-out variant runs through the middle of the
small letters of the font (it was too high).
All changes: CHANGELOG.md ·
guide: docs/user-guide.md.
Update
Installations on 1.x update from the web interface (Settings → Updates): the server updates
