Google TTS (Ice Cream Sandwich) 0.9.0

Choose a tag to compare

@tgeczy tgeczy released this 26 Oct 08:53

The Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" Google TTS voices (English US and English GB), running again on Windows: as an NVDA synthesizer and, new in this release, as a SAPI 5 voice.

No Google data is included. The voices are downloaded from the Ice Cream Sandwich gapps package on SourceForge (only about 6 MB of it is fetched), or imported from your own Android 4.0 GoogleTTS.apk, and converted on your own computer.

Downloads

  • googleIcsTts-0.9.0.nvda-addon: for NVDA 2023.1 and later, 32- and 64-bit. After installing, open NVDA menu > Tools > Google TTS (Ice Cream Sandwich) voices to get the voices.
  • googleIcsTts-sapi-0.9.0.exe: the SAPI 5 voice for JAWS, Narrator and any other SAPI program, 32- and 64-bit, Windows 7 SP1 and later. Leave Download the voices from SourceForge now ticked at the end of setup, or use Google TTS (Ice Cream Sandwich) voice settings in the Start menu.

What's new in 0.9.0

  • The SAPI 5 voice: bookmarks reported where they fall in the audio, fast stopping, rate +10 about six times normal speed, XML rate, pitch, volume, silence and spelling.
  • The SAPI voice settings app: download or import the voices, copy the ones the NVDA add-on already has, use a voices folder of your own, shorten pauses, check for updates.
  • Voices imported with the SAPI settings app go to a shared folder that every account and the sign-in screen can use, and the NVDA add-on finds them there too.
  • NVDA add-on: at volume 0, pause trimming no longer throws off the timing.

This is an early release; feedback is welcome in the issues.
