Nidestream 1.0.3

Choose a tag to compare

@thedanielbolu thedanielbolu released this 25 Oct 01:21

Download: Nidestream.dmg below (universal: Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 14 or later).

Fixed

  • No more duplicate downloads. A file the browser had already handed to Nidestream could be downloaded a second time from the extension's popup. Nidestream now recognises a link it already has: it shows Already downloading in Nidestream, resumes it if it was paused, or says Already downloaded if the file is finished. The same file arriving from a different address is recognised too.

Coming with extension 1.2.0

  • The extension popup shows what Nidestream already has: Downloading 37% (updating live), Queued or Downloaded ✓ instead of a Download button, and Resume or Retry for paused or failed downloads.
  • Files are labelled by type (MKV · Video · 31 MB) instead of technical server types like "octet-stream".

The extension update reaches Chrome and Firefox through their stores. The duplicate protection above works with the current extension too.

Updating

Quit Nidestream, open the new Nidestream.dmg and drag Nidestream onto Applications, replacing the old copy. Your downloads and settings are kept. If macOS blocks the first launch, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

Nidestream 1.0.2

@thedanielbolu thedanielbolu released this 25 Oct 00:24

Download: Nidestream.dmg below (universal: Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 14 or later).

Fixed

  • Browser downloads now start straight away. Previously a confirmation window opened behind the browser, where you couldn't see it, so downloads from Chrome, Brave or Firefox seemed to do nothing.

New

  • "Downloading in Nidestream" pop-up in the top-right corner when a browser download is handed over. It shows over full-screen apps and fades out by itself; click it to open Nidestream.
  • Prefer to confirm each download? Turn on Settings → Browser → Ask before starting browser downloads. The window now appears in front of the browser.

Updating

Quit Nidestream, open the new Nidestream.dmg and drag Nidestream onto Applications, replacing the old copy. Your downloads and settings are kept. If macOS blocks the first launch, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

Updating from 1.0.0

@thedanielbolu thedanielbolu released this 24 Oct 16:38

The first release of Nidestream, a download manager for macOS in the spirit of IDM.

Download: Nidestream.dmg below (universal: Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 14 or later).

Install

  1. Open Nidestream.dmg and drag Nidestream onto Applications.
  2. Open Nidestream. macOS says it can't verify the app because it isn't notarized yet: click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, click Open Anyway next to the Nidestream message, and confirm with your password. After that it opens normally.
  4. Follow Connect Your Browsers to add the browser extension to Chrome, Brave, Edge or Firefox.

What's in it

  • Faster downloads over several connections, adding more only while they help
  • Pause and resume, including after crashes and network drops
  • Continue a download from a fresh link when the old one expires
  • Browser integration: takes over browser downloads, right-click "Download with Nidestream", download all links on a page
  • Video grabber with HLS stream downloads (saved as MP4 when FFmpeg is installed)
  • Queue, scheduler, speed limiter, categories, batch and site downloads, clipboard monitoring, menu bar view
