blunted v1.2.0 — offline spelling and grammar

English spelling, grammar and punctuation corrections now run fully offline with bundled Harper. Open Review → Clarity, inspect Original / Proposed, choose an alternative and Apply change. Cmd/Ctrl+Z undoes each correction.

Also includes heading-level corrections, grouped Appearance / Review / Library settings, five English varieties, article vocabulary exceptions, and stale-suggestion protection.

Validation: 133 JavaScript tests, 12 local Rust tests, networking-disabled browser workflows, installed Mac upgrade and successful Mac/Windows CI builds. Existing writing was preserved during the local Applications upgrade.

Mac Apple Silicon packages are ad-hoc signed and not notarized; Windows x64 installers are unsigned and include the offline WebView2 installer. Compare downloads with SHA256SUMS.txt.

Clean-machine disconnected installation, Windows runtime acceptance, assistive technology/IME checks and five independent writer sessions remain open. See docs/v1.2-release.md in the repository for the full acceptance ledger.

blunted 1.1 — recovery and persistence repairs

blunted 1.1 keeps your writing available when storage, analysis or recovery operations fail.

What changed

• Export your active article or retry the original library when its folder becomes unavailable, without replacing your writing or editing position.
• Recover Review and Outline after analysis errors; stale suggestions stay unavailable until current analysis succeeds.
• Get truthful complete, partial or failed Clear results. Pending saves cannot recreate data during Clear.
• Import the backup and choices you confirmed, with exact imported/skipped counts and separate preferences outcomes.
• Retain a valid portable recovery copy through corrupt main storage or quota failures.
• Retry failed final preference saves or explicitly exit without saving preferences while preserving article protections.
• Remove unused renderer filesystem-plugin authority. Intended native selected-folder operations and exports remain available.
• Windows installers embed the offline WebView2 runtime installer.

The Mac application is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. The Windows installer is unsigned. Offline runtime embedding increases the Windows package size.

Verification and provenance

Source: 548301e6fc46282b483a680311be72e75ccc5f5d.

• Local: 100 Node tests and 12 native Rust tests passed; Mac installer integrity and embedded strict signature verification passed.
• Linux CI: passed on the release source.
• Windows CI: passed on the release source; unsigned NSIS artifact includes offline runtime embedding.
• Tag-triggered Mac build, Windows build and tests also passed.
• Portable HTML output was compared across Mac and Windows builds before upload. All five uploaded asset digests were checked against GitHub's stored SHA-256 values.
• Bounded actual native/browser checks cover IPC permission denial, persistence, recovery, Clear results, preferences-aware exit, browser quota enforcement and UI recovery.
• Local Mac upgrade/launch displayed 1.1.0 and preserved existing article-file hashes. This is development-Mac evidence, not a clean-machine installation claim.

Acceptance still pending

Disconnected Windows installation with runtime absent and present, clean-Mac installation/upgrades, full installed cross-platform Undo/accessibility/IME/zoom/contrast/performance checks, and five independent writer workflows remain incomplete. See the retained P1 follow-ups. This release does not claim those checks passed or that the original acceptance contract is complete.

blunted 1.0 — article first, tools on demand

blunted 1.0 turns the offline clarity editor into an article-writing app: choose an article, draft, organize, review, and export.

• Minimal writing surface with a compact header, warm paper, serif prose, a stable 42rem column, and tools under More.
• Local article library with search, independent saves, recovery backups, rename, trash/restore, and whole-library backup/restore.
• Write, Review, and Read modes; Markdown shortcuts, heading outline, quiet save status, and per-article working positions.
• Clarity and Structure reviewers show one passage at a time. Review every replacement individually; inspect or restore dismissed notes.
• Clean reading and print layouts, numbered lists, labelled omitted images, and inspectable link destinations without remote fetching.
• Markdown/plain-text export includes the headline by default, with body-only available. Portable HTML retains one local draft.

The Mac app is ad-hoc signed, without Developer ID signing or notarization. The Windows installer is unsigned. These platform trust limitations remain; do not disable system security protections globally.

Verification and limits

58 JavaScript tests and five Rust filesystem tests cover migration, recovery, saving failures, article switching, review offsets, dismissals, incremental findings and backup conflicts. Portable builds are deterministic. Browser checks covered Write/Review/Read at 390, 768, 1180 and 1440px, and long wrapped passage navigation. An isolated Mac debug app exercised Apply, native Undo and quit/reopen.

Fully offline operation, English-first, no accounts, cloud services or language models. Clean-machine offline installs, assistive-technology acceptance, representative typing-latency checks and five independent writer sessions remain pending. CI build and signature checks establish artifact production, not those manual acceptance results.

Release build evidence

Both installers were built from source tag v1.0.0 (ccaa8aad43155f57d5cb8aaf61e92fc42d022f41) using the corrected workflow at 7ee1664. The follow-up changes only CI ordering and exact-ref selection; the release tag is unchanged.

• Mac build and signature verification: passed. Downloaded DMG checksums, bundled app version 1.0.0 and strict signature verification also passed locally.
• Windows build and filesystem tests: passed. Downloaded installer checksums and ZIP payload comparison passed.
• Portable HTML from Mac, Windows and the local build is byte-identical.

Blunted 0.1.6

Blunted 0.1.6 corrects the macOS app signature issue found in v0.1.5 and carries forward editable Clear and Essay profiles, per-rule strictness, personal word lists, reviewed sample suggestions, Write/Review separation, and local autosave.

Important: v0.1.5 withdrawn

Do not install or run v0.1.5. Its Mac app bundle failed signature verification and Gatekeeper blocked it as damaged. The v0.1.5 tag remains unchanged and will not be reused.

Verification status

GitHub Actions tests and both platform builds passed. The downloaded Mac DMG matched its CI checksum, and the app inside passed codesign --verify --deep --strict. The downloaded Windows files matched their CI checksum manifest. Clean-machine Mac and Windows installation, launch, offline writing, autosave, recovery, and upgrade from 0.1.4 have not yet been completed and remain pending.

• Fixed startup registration: the shell now provides the file picker expected by startup wiring, shortcuts register before control setup, and preference/control initialization is isolated. The original failure was reproduced before the fix.
• Fresh installs default to Serif; saved font choices restore correctly, and quick rule controls populate despite preference initialization errors.
• Mobile Notes jumps leave the Notes heading and category chips below the sticky header.
• The app and docs describe the single Clear preset. Named profiles remain future work.
• Added a real screenshot of the running app to the README.

Clean-machine installs

Clean Mac and Windows install/launch checks have not been performed. Build hashes below identify the release files; they do not verify clean-machine installation. Record those results after testing on clean machines.

blunted-0.1.1.html is byte-identical across independent macOS builds (local + CI). The Windows CI copy differs only in line endings (CRLF checkout) and is functionally identical — engine tests pass on all platforms. LF checkouts are now enforced repo-wide (.gitattributes) so future builds are byte-identical everywhere.
